Matt, get in either car, on a Sunday morning, and go out and rip some highways and carve some corners.
Maybe you need an M'cycle when spring breaks: it does wonders for clearing the head and makes one a better driver, imo.
Or, some anti-depressants, as Thunder suggested.

As someone who has recently relocated from the DC metro area, i can relate to your dislike for driving. It took approximately an hour to go anywhere in that area not to mention an hour drive back to your starting destination. You mention driving an hour to Baltimore which means your commute probably consist of 495, 395 and/or the dreaded 66!

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the time was spent actually moving but as you already know this is not the case. I lived 26 miles from my job but yet suffered through an 1.5 hour commute each way. Rain or overcast turned an 1.5 hour commute into 2 hours! Now I live in a MUCH slower city and the feelings I once had about driving has subsided. My commute is about 15 minutes which is a bummer because I spend very little time enjoying my new set of wheels.

although you love your cars, maybe its time for a new one? that always gets me excited to drive again

Well, most of the time I don't live in the DC area, so the traffic I deal with is the 20 minute backups on US 29 or US 250 on weekday afternoons because VDOT cannot synchronise any stoplights whatsoever. In a sense, I live in an area with optimal driving conditions: little traffic, many scenic backroads, and good pavement.

I'd love to go on a Sunday morning drive, except every police cruiser is outfitted with moving radar and the only time they're not out there is during their lunch break. I know this, because my roommate drove home at 4am once and said there was someone pulled over on the highway. Plus, I hate filling up at the pump every few days because it reminds me how much money I've spent (click on the signature for the records) just filling up the vehicle. And my back acts up after 2 hours of driving.

My father keeps pining for a new car but 4 cars is absurd. I like the X3 because it does exactly what I ask it to do without fuss and is ungodly good in the Appalachian mountain passes. I wouldn't mind a VW Golf diesel as a replacement but I'm sure it wouldn't be more fun than the X3.

I turn 21 in less than a month, so I suppose spending time alone at the bar wouldn't be a bad replacement activity. Kind of sucks though; it's my last semester of college and I know I won't have any leisure time once I find a job.

Do y'all think I'd be nuts to drive from Richmond, VA down to Myrtle Beach, SC and back for a 4-day trip?

I wanted to take the plane to Charleston then rent a car to drive up, but cost ($350 for the airfare alone) and time-wise (must connect in CLT or ATL), it's a struggle for that to make sense. Amtrak isn't a terrible idea except there are limited rental car options where I'd get off, and it's likely slower than driving. But I dunno if I can stand driving 7 hours alone each way, it's kind of exhausting. Mentally I'm not feelin' up to it and I don't want more traffic violations.

I'm struggling with spring break plans, y'all probably can tell. Anyone wanna offer their $0,02?

Well if you cannot stand to drive this seems a little out there. And btw Im in the same boat I am 22, graduating with a BS in Finance and looking to get into an mba/jd program. FML right now FML But I cannot recommend the sit at the bar cuz your 21 trick. I did that lol put on 15 pounds in 6 months Changed my schedule real quick lol Everyone has ups and downs its not unusual, for gods sake dont get anti depressants.. Put some trees in the air before you go that route. And hey relax, you have a bmw and a degree...could be worse mi amigo. Don't drive alone if your not mentally up to it!!! Pull what I like to call a Bill Clinton and grab the first chick you see whose eligible and ask her to come with.
