This makes me very sad. He was truly a great talent, and to all accounts, a good person. As my wife said as we played the songs linked above, "Such a beautiful voice. None of the music out today can compare."

I know you are joking, but indirectly, you are making my point. I know there has always been "business" in "show business", but why do I feel like guys like Pendergrass actually cared about the music, when folks (such as Snoop) are more about $$? Is it my age catching up with me, or discernment?

Irony is the majority of today's popular/rythm & blues/hip hop music and artists, consistently sample the blueprint of artist' like Pendergrass. Often times failing to even give credit to the trailblazers...and earning far more revenue from the samples than the originals. Very little originality in showbiz these days as it's become a matter of who can sell more in less amount of time...

Well, Snoop did give a shot out to TP on his debut album:

"You without me, baby, is like Harold Melvin without the Blue Notes... You'll never go platinum!"

Snoops first record was built around the blueprint from 60's-70's music era...his catalog is mostly re-sampled old-school material. I may not be the biggest fan of sampling but i believe if one is gonna do it, then it should be done right. I think Snoop makes a good effort at getting it right.
