4 hours to clear the driveway with the blower - drifts were nearly 4 feet in some places. They are saying it will snow another six or so before it is done.

It finally stopped here about an hour ago. We're awaiting the official snowfall totals from BWI. It's very close to setting the all-time snowfall record. The record currently belongs to the February 2003 storm that dumped 26.8" of snow. At noon, BWI reported 26.5", so I think this storm did it!

Of course, the news on all major networks has been on all day. They've been showing traffic videos of the major highways - I-95, 695, etc - and they are completely covered. Barely one lane is passable. Things should be getting better since the storm has stopped.

There are over 150,000 homes without power in Maryland and over 200,000 in the DC/Northern Virginia area.

Here's a picture my sister took of our road. It's one of the main roads in our rural part of the county.

Thumbs up My measurement "skillz"

So, I covered up Norma Jean last night and this is the result.

She is almost out!

Pup playing in the snow!

I could not find a ruler so, I used the next best thing. I know that a bottle of Patron is approximatelly 18cm for us American that would be 7.1 inches. This is at the mailbox approximately 17.3 inches give or take a few;-)

And this half way from the front door to the mailbox, approximately 22.4 inches.

I'll have pics tomorrow when I get back and plug in the memory card adaptor. We had some sleet mix in last night which pushed down the totals, and made things hard to shovel. Total in Spotsylvania, VA was about 16" (40cm). The power flickered a few times, and 4 trees fell on the road leading out of our street. The community was quick to plow the roads in the neighbourhood (clear by 6pm) and cut the downed trees. I had some fun in the X3 but given how much it's snowed this winter, it's wearing a bit thin.

Now here's comes the cold. -12°C (10F) right now.

Obligatory Snow pictures.

Here's some more from my area.

With classes canceled Friday I was able to leave for home earlier than usual so the roads wouldn't be in too bad shape. This is US-29 bypass around 11:30; visibility was reduced to around 200m.

A couple shots from our driveway. Notice the fallen tree across the road; this was one of many that fell across the area. Luckily none fell onto our house.

Heavy wet snow on the pine trees next to our driveway.

Some great pictures around dusk at the end of the storm on Saturday. I drove around the neighbourhood to get a few shots.

More fallen trees, and approx snow depth was about 40cm.

The roads were decent in Spotsylvania Co this morning but crossing over into Orange Co. the main highway was pretty bumpy and covered. C'mon IT'S THE MAIN HIGHWAY.

We lost power at around 1:30 in the morning and honestly, I don't know if it's been restored yet. There were a lot of places where I could see trees had fallen across the road and had to be cut, even on the interstate. It's going to be a hard freeze tonight with temperatures going down below -14°C.

Thank god I'm going to Raleigh next weekend. At least if anything falls, it'll be rain.
