It was mildly interesting seeing the landscape change as I drove south from Central VA to the Durham area. It went from winter wonderland landscape at first, then somewhere around Farmville I was able to see peeks of grass. By the time I cross the border there wasn't any snow left on the side of the roads and when I got onto the interstate, there was almost no snow left at all.

Of course as luck has it, the RDU area is now under a Winter Advisory, so it looks like I bring snow wherever I go. . At least NC DOT was able to pretreat the roads, so main roads are only wet despite hours of snowfall.

I started this thread on Friday, February 5th before the first storm of the "Double Blizzard." Today is the first day since then that our schools are back in session! (With the exception of Frederick County, which is still closed today.) Most of the counties are operating on a 2-hour delayed opening today, tomorrow, and Friday, though. These kids will be in school until July!!

Well there is another shot of two days of snow next week. My county put schools on delayed opening all week.

Neither of them are ready to go back to school. LOL

My sister Melissa is a 10th grader in a private school...they do not have to make up any snow days.

My other sister Kristen is a teacher in a public school, so she will have to make up the days.

I remember when I was in school and we had off for a week during the blizzard of 96, they took away some of the bullsh!t days we were scheduled off and shaved a few days off of our spring break. I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same thing this year.

Maryland puts a great deal of emphasis on clear sidewalks as a criteria for school delays or closings. In some counties, if someone slips on your part of the sidewalk, they legally can sue you and will win.

The sidewalks at UVa have been so bad at times that I'm surprised no one's sued the University despite hundreds of falls. I guess that's one diff between VA and MD.
