traffic cops are dooshes. End of story.
You merge when the lane ends. I sat in traffic for 50 minutes today because people can't get that through their heads.

It really surprises me how many people no longer stand up for their own rights. Yes, it may get you in some more shit, but if your own rights are not worth defending, what is?

How to say this delicately ... I hope people realise what giant a-holes you look to all the cars you pass before you try to merge ... and because you are doing this in nice cars you are ofcourse looking like rich a-holes which is the most loathed of the species. If you dont mind that perception then all the more power to you

In the meanwhile I am thankful for that officer standing up for the rest of us and I hope his faith in driving-kind was not ruined because of one incident ...

A little off-topic, but oh well.

Either way the engineering group who designed that ramp made
2 lanes so that it could be occupied by vehicles making the left turn
into that lane. Depending on where that lane is headed after the turn
is made the decision on the part of the person occupying the middle
lane has the right to decide to merge safely into the left lane at any
point the merge can safely be done.

In fact it is recommended that the driver make the merge further
down the middle lane so as to not slow down traffic behind the driver.

It is the responsibility of other drivers to be courteous and not
get angry when other drivers legally use other lanes in order not
to get in a line that will clearly obstruct traffic as the diagram clearly
shows would have occurred.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves!

I posted this a few years back: A highway administration official once commented on the huge line caused by a particular construction zone. The line was 7 miles long at times with the entire lane open almost the entire way.

He said that there is no reason for people to get into the through-lane before the cones. "If we wanted people to merge 7 miles back, we'd start the cones 7 miles back."

People need to learn how to merge and "let merge." It's childish to think that someone using the entire available open lane is "cutting in line."

Edit: Did I just agree with Barry?

Raven..if you're that worried about what other "drivers" think of you cuz you're in a bimmer I feel sorry for you. Those other drivers were in the wrong, the guy posting this thread did nothing wrong..absolutely nothing wrong. If this story is true..then that cop was an ass..period. And he deserved to be told so..

I can see why some people might get upset...but you did absolutely nothing wrong by law...

As for arguing with the cop...that is good to a certain extent...he didn't write you for anything so give him credit for that...most cops would find something to write you for arguing even if they have to make it up

Really, you worry that much about what people will think about you because you drive a nice car? Seems to me there is probably a reason you drive something nicer. Maybe because you are smart enough to understand traffic laws and flow and aren't stupid enough to block traffic behind you in the intersection because you realize the lane directly in front of you is clear whereas the one everyone is breaking their necks to get into is full?

Then again maybe you don't have to be smart to have a nice car. There are plenty of people who inherit.

As for looking like an a-hole, I guess its ok to look like one as long as you don't drive like one.

I guess I should have been more clear but I was trying to state my opinion without starting an argument - ofcourse people should use all lanes, but the problem is that a lot of people take advantage of the situation and pass (often in a manner that should (and obviously does) draw the attention of cops), rather than just keep up with trafic until they have to merge.

My plea is that people should be considerate in life and traffic to people arround them.

Yes that is why I said he did nothing wrong by law....but when you have a bunch of people using that right lane passing cars waiting in the left of course the people on the left waiting will be pissed...because they have to wait even more for the guys on the right to merge back in...

I guess in this situation it depends as well how long it is until the right lanes merges...
