Flat four Beetle engined but bigger heavier body. Slow, required lots of maintenance, used special fuel and oil. Brakes not servo assisted so an emergency stop meant both feet on the brakes, and a prayer!! Red lined at 3800rpm and had a 0-62 time of eventually!! Good car for a newly qualified driver though. Did me for a couple of years then I bought some real cars. 4 Vauxhalls (GM) [Cavalier, Manta, Calibra (a real heap of dog poo), Cavalier - each progressively newer and more powerful], 3 Skoda Octavia Diesel Combi's again each more powerful and better trimmed than it's predecessor and finally an X5 3.0D Sport which I absolutely love. First car was £700 in 1980, current X5 was £53,000 in 2005 |

My father bought me a 67 GTO as a college grad present-great and fast car,
wish I still had it. Used to come home from Boston to Philly on weekends to get laundry done tearing along route 95. My father bought it from a dealer that his accountant recommended. The car had 4500 miles on it when we bought it. Once I got to Boston and opened up the maintenance book I noticed last service was in Oregon at 5200 miles. Wow-cross country apparently in reverse! My first experience with car dealers. Fred |
