OK What's the verdict;

Chime in: Did you change carriers and is Verizon service any better than your AT&T service in the so called trouble areas, NY, SFO, home ect? I'm getting close to buying so
the difference in service may be a factor.

My business partner switched from At&t iphone to Verizon iphone and says the service here in the Washington, DC suburbs is vastly improved. I have verizon as well and also have the iphone. I have not noticed any lost calls or poor reception so far.

I went from BB Pearl to iphone and am loving it

OK the reports are coming in. The conclusion appears to be as follows.

If you have the liberty to choose between AT&T and Verizon to buy an iPhone, your best choice depends on what you value. If you enjoy making phone calls, the Verizon iPhone is the obvious winner. Or if you’re an AT&T iPhone customer and your reception is just pathetic wherever you live, then by all means, pay the price and jump ship to Verizon.

With all that said, if you use your iPhone more often as a general computing device rather than a phone, then the AT&T iPhone’s faster transfer rates should serve your needs.

WIRED It’s a better phone, period. More likely to pull a signal, even indoors — this could change the way we converse at bars. Hot-spotting is well-integrated and very easy to use. Has a whiter, slightly better-looking display.

TIRED Slow data transfers compared to the AT&T iPhone. Sluggish app installs take away from the App Store’s instant gratification. Video streams are compressed more heavily, so Netflix and YouTube are uglier. No simultaneous voice and data transmissions thanks to the limitations of CDMA.

So what's your flavor?

Call me crazy but I actually value a phone that makes phone calls reliably. I do love the extras but at the end of the day, it's a phone and there's nothing more aggravating that no signal and dropped calls. I can live with not being able to surf the Interweb and might be frustrated occasionally but dropping calls is the worst.

Having said that, I haven't noticed slow transfer speeds. The Internet is about the same as AT&T in my informal tests with people who have iPhone 4 from AT&T. Apps can take a little while to install but not all apps have been that way. It's not something that bothers me either way. YouTube and other videos have been fine so far.

A friend of mine just made the switch from AT&T (iPhone 3Gs) because he was tired of what he described as constantly dropping calls when in Los Angeles. FWIW and YMMV.

Actually not;

At this point I believe we are way past the era of a simple cell phone, and theres no turning back the clock. Trying to keep up with it all ( which no one
will ever do} is what the 18 pages are about.
