I played with my friends HTC 4g whatever it was in Atlanta. Yeah, 4G is fast as crap, but my iPhone 4 was still 10 times more usable, and he felt similarly.

What impresses me is the fact that it sells so well despite it's inadequacies as an actual phone. It is such a good gadget that it doesn't even have to be a good phone.

New customers are infinitely more valuable than old ones. It appears to be easy to get the old customers to buy a new phone, what they need to grow is conversions.

Marketing 101.
I mean leasing...

Yes, but that sounds too much like the typical apple fanboy excuse. I realize that you're probably not supporting this idea that its a great gadget and therefore it doesn't matter if it fails as a phone. The fact remains that this new IPhone 4 is a smart phone. The 3GS was a fantastic gadget as well, but it could at least make a phone call semi-reliably (Apple and AT&T share the blame for this). In terms of interface, both phones are nearly identical. So in the end the main difference is the hardware improvements. In terms of speed and camera capabilities, HTC Android phones are competitive. The major differences that remain are the improved screen and the allegedly improved antenna. Only a few weeks ago Jobs and Apple were talking up their development of this unique antenna as something revolutionary. It turned out to be a flop, and Apple deserves to be called out on it.

In the end, I don't think it would have mattered how good their new IPhone was going to be, the same 2 million people would have bought it the first weekend. Apple fought hard and was successful in winning the allegiance of many customers. Unfortunately the company made mistakes and is unwilling to own up to them.
I don't think its right for Jobs to dismiss this reception debacle as a "non-issue". It didn't matter how I held my IPhone 3GS or my Droid Incredible, so why should I change the way I hold a now improved IPhone 4?

I have a BlackBerry. I really do think all of the iPhones are great gadgets and poor phones. I personally think it sells so well because it is such a great gadget that people overlook the dropped calls and such.

I've had the all 3 gens of the iPhone and ordered the 4 when it was available for pre-order. I don't think it's perfect, but it does all I want quite well; face it there will be no smart-phone that will be the end all be all for the masses.

My number one complaint has always been battery life - but I use the heck out of it. I don't want an Android based phone and have very little to do with Google by choice. But that's the amazing thing about choice. If you like Android phones then buy it. Competition will drive down prices and be better for consumers in the end.

Just my .02 cents so don't flame me.

Who would be the plaintiffs in the lawsuit? I don't think they'll get many people joining the class action. Most fanboys who couldn't wait to get the iPhone will still love the iPhone, warts and all. Even if it couldn't make phone calls at all they would still love it. It's the nature of the iLLness.

With the amount of cooperation between wireless providers I doubt prices will come down anytime soon. I think we can all agree the telecoms should go fuck themselves.
