Ok I'll start;
Here's what I hade when I got the X. Energy MXV4 Plus | Michelin Tires They were just fine. Quiet and I got a lot of wear. Currently riding on Michelin Latitides. Same conclusion: They're just fine and they are quiet......

My CFO hates the Energies on her X5 (E53). They don't handle that well and are insanely expensive for the size, etc... Has anyone ever used Pirelli Scorpions? We had them and loved them on our Touareg.

You may want to list your sizes as well as certain tires are not available in every size.
I had the original Toyo Proxes S/T's in sizes 255/50/19 and 285/45/19. They lasted over 40,000 miles and were fantastic tires. Great in rain as well as dry and had one of the best looking sidewalls on any tire available for the X, imo. Only drawback was noise and there was plenty of it after about 10,000-15,000 miles. Just recently installed a set of Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetricos. Very happy with them so far, but have only a few thousand miles on them right now. So far, they are extremely quiet and grip seems to be similar to the Toyo's. However, the sidewall is not as good looking as the Toyo S/T or S/T II's. They are a little more rounded like a car tire, which some people may like better, but I preferred the square look of the Toyo's on a truck. It was more substantial looking tire and suited the X just about perfect. The Pirelli's don't look bad by any means, but I loved the way the Toyo's looked. I wanted to replace my S/T's with S/T II's, which according to many people here are much quieter than the originals, but they didn't make them in my sizes. I considered the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta SUV's, but ultimately chose the Pirelli's hoping I could get longer life out of them and the fact that the Pirellis are not only slightly wider in reality, but visually as well due to the tread pattern of the Vreds. Keep in mind that all tires are not exactly the same width and height just becasue they are the same size. So far, I would recommend the Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetricos. I would also personally try the Toyo S/T II's if I could find them in my sizes based on the fact the only downside to the originals was noise and that issue seems to be resolved. I may very well end up putting Vreds on next time depending on feedback from the group buy peeps as they age or if the Pirelli's continue to perform well and hold up as long as I would like, I may stick with them next time. Here is the Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimettrico.

Energy MXV4 Plus | Michelin Tires
I have a 2002 X5 4.4i and it came with a brand new set of 255/55R18
Energy MXV4 Plus | Michelin Tires They are awesome tires, quite, and long lasting. I've put 40K miles on them and are still good with lots of tread left. However, they are not as quite as they were when new. When the time comes to buy new tires I'll be buying the same tires, "I've got a lot riding on my tires, so Michelin is the way to go!"

I have had Michelen Synchrones for about 50k and they have held up well. They aren't loud and work well in gravel, light mud, snow and rain. I got them for just camping and winter but I have left them on year round and have no complaints. They are not aggressive street tires however so they don't handle as well as Diamaris and they seem to be heavier as well FWIW.

This is about as unscientific as it gets, but based on what I have seen on this website over the years, it sure does seem like people who have Michelins in 18" and smaller have been pretty happy whereas many people who have 19" and larger have been disappointed.

I'm in the process of moving to Continental CrossContact UHP on my X3 (summer tires). Due to budget constraints I've only replaced the two in the rear because they were dangerously below minimum tread, as I found out on I-485 during a rainstorm. I might report on them later on as I install the remaining two in the front and drive some more on them.
The outgoing summer tires are Kumho Ecsta SPT that I bought because I was clever when they were on $99 clearance. It's a comfortable ride with good wet traction but unpredictable handling at the limit and increasing noise as they wear made it obvious this was the wrong choice. The OEM Pirelli Scorpion STR all-seasons that came with the X3 were very pleasant. Good handling characteristics and good treadlife, but somewhat pricey. Many X3 drivers replace them with the same type, so repeat customers are a good sign. The Pirelli Snowsport 210/240 are good winter tires with excellent highway dynamics. None of the usual tread squirm or noise associated with winter tires, and higher-speed ratings mean one doesn't need to compromise dry traction in the winter. |
