the BBC sucks
his identity was revealed in the episode where Clarkson May Hammond and Collins entered a BMW 330 diesel in a 24 hour race . that was years ago . there was a camera shot of the pit monitor showing the drivers names .
everyone already knew his identity . I have seen his name in newspapers and internet for a couple of years .
a builder working at his home spotted the white suit and helmet in a glass case and started speculation of his identity .
it`s not so easy to keep a secret like that these days anyway .

I remember that episode, but I didn't catch the name on his suit. You are right though, it is hard to keep a secret like that.
