Electronic Cigarette

So has anyone smoked, i guess i should say use instead of smoked, an electronic cigarette? i bought one online after a couple unsatisfying hours of research. i'm going to use it as a substitute and hopefully ween myself of nicotine. i've tried the nicotine gum but that was an expensive habit (at the time i tried that it was 2-3x more expensive than my smoking habit) and i often found myself stealing a pinch of skoal from buddies.

Move to Virginia, where smoking restrictions are few and taxes are one of the lowest in the nation. Heck, Phillip Morris is HQed here.

Don't you mean North Carolina?

Do what I did 20 years ago. Just stop dead. Finish the pack, throw away the lighters and never buy any more. It wasn't easy, but after 6 months I had got through it. There were no nicotine patches or gum then.

With a pack of 20 now costing over £6 (close to 10 bucks) in the UK I'm glad I stopped a long time ago.

I did have support and encouragement from friends and colleagues which did help. For me, going cold turkey was the only way.

VA has lower cigarette taxes than NC. 30 cents versus 45 cents/pack, respectively. A carton can be had around $38-42 depending on brand.

Phillip Morris is a stone's throw from Richmond, hence the lobbying. And it's a huge recruiter at the UVA campus under the Altria name.

The second my mom found out she was pregnant with my little brother, that's exactly what she did. It's pure will power, finding something else to do with your time when the urge hits, etc. I've got urges too, but I find that I don't pay nearly as much attention to them when I'm actually busy vs sitting around with a wandering mind. I've easily missed two meals in a day before when I've been so excited about something else I was doing at the moment.

Tony, sounds like you need a hobby I've been getting into these again lately YouTube - ALIGN TREX 600 AIRWOLF - just ignore the ignorant "dat phat, dat nice" commentary by the camerman. I'm sure they're more expensive than your cigarette habit (I've never smoked, so I'm guessing), but at the same time they'll give you and your kids something to do while keeping you around longer for them as well...if you've got them.

no kids and i don't think im prego, but i do have a niece and two nephews. i do have some hobbies, actually into nitro powered RC buggies / trucks. that heli is sweet.

one thing i know is that every time i quit i end up going good for a few days until the weekend comes, i'll find myself out at a bar bummin one from someone, then again and again... then after doing it enough i feel bad so i go buy a pack so i don't bum any and before i know it i'm back into it.

looks like i'd better just suck it up and deal. this is the first time i've looked at quitting with financials in mind. smokes are just too damn expensive. i figure buying 3-4 maybe even 5 packs a week is near 40$, that's a nice bottle of wine.

gonna pick a day this week and go for it. if that electronic cig comes in i'll puff on it and see if i get the nic fix i need and go from there.

Next time you get the urge to buy a pack or ever a carton, get online and transfer the funds from your checking to savings account...at the end of each week, two weeks, month, etc reward yourself with something for the X..angel eyes, LED interior lighting kit, taillights, one of allstard12's subwoofer boxes, etc

Pushups or something else physical works too, but it usually takes an accountibilibuddy to make that one work.

Isn't that the point though...accountability and dedication.
