Because of my commute, I now drive an Accord V6 that belonged to my wife. Still putting in about $150 a week in gas. As soon as I find a way to cut down on my commute, I plan on purchasing a 750Li.

200k ha Does your father-in-law drive that? Does it run good?
My 4.4i just got 16.8 MPG in City driving @ slow! (at night-not too many cars) However with few kickdowns involved. I still got O2s to change & I just got my Redline S1 to clean injectors.havn't cleaned it since I bought it. (Year now, I bet it wasn't cleaned before and is very clogged)

Actually, my mother-in-law drives it to work. They live in rural Texas, so there isn't much city driving. I had some sensor and gasket issues that I didn't want to deal with for a 10 year old car with 200k miles. After he made the repairs it runs pretty good. Interior and body were flawless. My father-in-law has more cars than I can count, and takes care of them very well. He has a 2008 Infinity M that he bought brand new that currently has less than 10k on the odometer.

Strictly anecdotal and, regional, from FL up through eastern GA, into SC and home to western NC, the Interstate highways exits had regular all well under $4. Bought some Shell Premo for the Vette in SC for $4.05, which was as low as I saw; that joint had reg for $3.80 and Diesel for $3.84, cash! A quick stop type joint...needless to say, the pumps were packed and even big trucks were trying to get in line for that cheaper diesel.

Meanwhile, on our ~800 mile run north back to the Mtn house, the freakin Interstates are packed, so the impact has not taken effect on our route. And, it hasn't hit that mystical high 4s to 5 bucks around this area, either.

I rode Amtrak to Sacramento Wednesday and to my surprise ridership is way up
and the fare was very reasonable. My next trip to LA is going to be on Amtrak.
I will take twice as long but will be much much cheaper.

800 miles round trip SF/LA
assume 20mpg
40 gals @ $5/gal = $200
takes about 6 hours depending on traffic.

The Coast Starlight is $165 round trip from Oakland to Union Station and takes what? 12 hours?

For $35 I'm driving.

(and that $35 difference is probably offset anyway by needing to take a cab or some other form of transportation once in LA).
