Who do you let drive your X or BMW? - Page 2

My wife backed the 2008 into another car last Spring with the parking sensors warning her the whole time (it was driving me nuts she said). $1,200 to fix.

Sometimes technology doesn't help....

I'm with JCL, et al...
30+ years with my CEO, she can and does, drive any car we have, whenever she chooses to. Doesn't have an MC license, but I know she can drive/ride those, too, if she had to.

On our several trips back north to NJ/NY, she usually drives whatever car we are in, more than 50% of the trip.

I know she is not as obsessive as I am about keeping cars clean, parking off in the far corner of lots, etc., but if I can't trust her with any/all of our 'stuff', who do I trust?!

Plus, cars are simply things we have, in life.

My wife is a sort of the same way as the OP's. She is fairly oblivious to anything car related. As long as it looks nice and doesn't make any strange noises that distract her from her cell phone calls, she is happy. Our footwells and door compartments are stuffed with water bottles, energy bar wrappers, business cards, tissues, etc. I really need to clean it out as soon as it warms up a bit. At the end of the day though, I feel good knowing she is driving a safe car, so I have trained myself to overlook tiny scratches and belmishes in the process.

When I replace my daily driver in the near future, it will most likley be with a car I am very passionate about like an e46 M3 or something, but for now, she is welcome to skip the X5 and drive my e36 17 year old, 320,000+ mile beater, um...I mean high performance luxury, sedan whenever she wants.

As far as other people are concerned, I use my own personal discretion. If it is someone who generally takes care of their possessions and I trust them, then sure they can borrow/drive my cars. If they are known to abuse thier automobiles, etc., then no sir.

i guess all women are the same. my Mom insists on putting enough food and water in the car to survive for days. It makes me crazy when i open the glove compartment and it is stuffed with unused napkins--just in case she needs them. I end up spending 5 minutes just trying to organize them back in there perfectly so the compartment door closes. I usually give her car a really good detail 1-2 times a year, with an occasional wax in between that time. I still remember when we brought the car home brand new, i told my mom, "please dont put all your crap in this car, it looks so nice, clean and neat" but low and behold--its all back. I wouldnt call it messy, everything is organized, but just more cluttered IMO

That is just what happens after the "newness" of a vehicle fades most of the time.

On a side note, I would almost guarantee that our X, thanks to my wife, could "out-random" just about anyone here with regards to what is in your vehicle as we speak. I am always perplexed when I finally do get around to cleaning it out as to what I find. It is literally a magnet for the most random objects you could imagine.

I'm sure it will be the same for me. Wife doesn't want snow tires on her jetta she says it's a was of money. As soon as I put them on the X I'm sure she will be all over it. Sometimes she'll get to drive and other times not so much. This is always a fun topic when it comes to spouses and some things.

standfast. Do not let her or family to drive your x. Have her take the Bus or train THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE FOR. or if you want to ease out of it just tell her your not on my insurance so it would be against the policy if you or your family get into a accident.

You should see the pile of shit in the back of my mom's X5. Every time I would switch for a week she flips out "What would you do without a jibline!?"

I'll let a couple drive my 3... I'm looking to trade it for something faster... then I'll be a frigging guard dog over it. I seem to have good luck finding girls that aren't car idiots... Mostly because otherwise they wouldn't be able to put up with me

you know i must say, i have had that same luck. my last one had an awesome sense of cars, she drove the same X5 as mine, except in 3.0i version. and her dad has an X6M and introduced me to this forum

he was an awesome guy, i gotta say i miss him too!

LOL... do you have a girlfriend/wife? Anyway that just seems to be how it happens sometimes.....
But I will make it a point to get her car snow tires.. Cause when the weather is bad she does seem to expect me to brave it and she gets to take mine to work....
