Probably because they already took the 911 Turbo, GT3 and Carrera GT so don't need it.

What did Jeremy Clarkson call the Boxster.... The poor mans Porsche, it seems poor men really can have a Porsche.

I reckon you're mad not to at $4,500.

Wow! I could fix it up and sell it and make money or at least that could be my plan... I called the seller to take it for a drive. I'm waiting for a cal back. I also has a manual Transmission. I haven't had one of those for along time.

Thanks ECS Tuning. I'll post pics if I get it and let you all know what it needs. I'm bummed that they haven't called back in 6 hrs. I'm heading over there if they don't call me back.

Hmm hadn't thought of that. I'm thinking they just want rid of it. Supposedly she drove it up until 2 years ago.

I'm a realtor and have sold estate properties and when someone dies the heirs often just want quick sales on things to be done with it.

Last Spring I ran into a 15 or 20 year old Volvo Square box with a 5 spd (at a property I sold). When mom died dad, parked it in the garage ,closed the door and never even started it. Had 14,000 miles. they had the car 2 years, they bought it new then she died. of course the battery was dead, the fuel system was all fouled of course. He wanted $6500 I thought too much $. considering tires, battery, belts, cleaning and rebuilding fuel system.

This Porsche is 14 years old... who knows what it needs.

The price seems excellent. It is sometimes difficult to gauge the correct price for a Porsche of any model due to the innumerable options and upgrades that can almost double the price of the car.

Absolutely you MUST get it checked out first and watch out for the dreaded RMS (rear main seal) leak. That could mean a new engine. In fact, when a RMS leak was detected under warranty, Porsche would usually replace the engine. True story.

I had a '99 Boxster that I loved. It was not the most powerful P-Car but the sound, the handling, the balance - all awesome. Other than the RMS, there aren't many problems with the car. Of course with any motorized convertible top you want to make sure it's in good working order because that too is very expensive. A new fabric top isn't too bad but the inner workings are pricey.

EDIT: Adding a few more thoughts:

Just to clarify my point about the RMS, grabbing the car and figuring out repairs later could be very costly so that $4500 could wind up ballooning quickly.

The mileage on that example is low and that is generally good but it seems that the RMS leak was not associated with high mileage cars. There is a school of thought that the RMS leak and oil leaks in general on these cars can be caused by lack of driving so some guys would advise againt very low mileage cars that sat most of the time.

Any guy who thinks a Boxster is a "chick car" has never driven one. They are a blast! Most pure Porsche guys will admit that a Cayman S is a better value and more fun than a 911. The guys who have never driven a Cayman will say it's a chick or poor man's Porsche. They'd be missing out.

even More OT..

I'm surprised, I was kinda' happy that her friends made nice noises about the X, guessing they woulda' done a rain dance for a VVette.. couldn't happen anyway, she can't see where she is, (or something like that) in a '63 forest green fi that I found just after we got married and would still be paying on if she HAD liked it, but that was our first car argument, roflmao. have I told you the one about her loving her RABBIT GTi, so when she couldn't get my 5'er up our steep driveway, she handbrakes the ol' girl around and front-wheel-drives the e12 by backing up the hill?
When she said she wanted awd, I was definitely listening.

:end thread hijack

Agree with PNG on RMS issue.

I suggest, signing a contingent written agreement with the seller.
You pay her a refundable deposit and get the car checked. If all is
OK you pay her the balance and get the pink slip. If not, she has to
refund you the full deposit.

Good luck!
