Home On The Mtn, Catching Up...

Hi All, We migrated north from the FL Starter Shack last weekend, stopping in Daytona Beach to chase the ball/sleep over with friends, and rolled up to the Mtn Joint on late Saturday. Uneventful drive, other than long, with both of us driving a car, each: no time 'off'.

Both cars loaded to the gunwales, and going as fast as we dared, dodging the cops. The CEO's Hyundai Tucson averaged 26 mpg, while the VetteVert pulled a cool 29.9, over this year's longer 950 mile trip. The Vette is our EconoCar.

We left 89 degrees, (warm to hot winter, even in SW FLA), and staggered into 'mtn cool' Saturday night, at home. Sunday, we woke up to 26 degs F, 45 mph winds, and a coating of snow. WTF?!

We have been home a week, azzholes&elbows doing stuff, unpacking, seeing what needs to be fixed/done, etc. But, great to be home on the Mtn.

A few pics: a cool garter 'semi-pet' garter snake at our friends' home in Daytona Beach, a car load of new Xs chugging up the climbs on I-40 West in NC, just a hour north of the BMW US MotherPlant, (note no enclosed carrier), and some pics of when we got home. While 2 houses are a cool/nice 'change' every year, there are wearing my skinny azz out... thanks for reading, and looking.

Good to hear you arrived safely.

I am enjoying not having any house to maintain, I wouldn't want two. At some point you are going to have to pick your state!

Thanks, PNG/K & JCL...

And, the X had sat for 5+ months in the garage, in situ...I had left the Batt Tender hooked up via an old 'mechanical' appliance timer: I turned the key and it fired up immediately, and made errand runs with the ol' 2001. It ran like I had left it parked the day before!

I signed a job offer in Greenville SC, so maybe I'll finally be able to visit sometime! Given all the mountain biking that's in Western NC, I'll prob stop by sometime.

I have not seen Audi truck with uncovered cars yet. They usually have cloth car covers in open carrier. MB has been doing open air for a while.

Glad you're back safe! It's funny that was one thing that has impressed me about the X5 is how long you can let it sit, and yet it drives totally normal. I just bought a new 2012 Acura TSX, and I left it at work, cabbed it to the airport for a 3 day trip, came back and it was deader than a door nail. It lost 100% of the charge with nothing left on at all and then drove funny for 2 days. I'd left the X5 sit for over a month with no battery tender and it started and drove perfect after. Weird!

Honda quality may have gone down the tube. I had a Accord in late 80s and I left in garage for 2 weeks when I went overseas. Came back and it started in first attempt. I could not believe it as the car was 2 years old at that point. Of-course it was a made in Japan Accord back then.

Thanks again for the views and welcome home!
Vegas: the X, or whatever car we leave, is hooked to a Battery Tender for that duration. But, instead of running the BT 24/7, I run it through an old fashioned mechanical appliance timer, set to come on 2 'days' a week for ~24 hours.

Either the X or the Vette, have always started and run like tops, after that long sleep.
Dbl dose of Stabil in the tank, tires pumped up, etc. No prob.

Fwiw, my last 'company car', before I retired, used to sit at EWR or JFK or LGA for weeks, in winter or summer, while I travelled: a 1998 pos Eagle Vision sedan, and that started every time. New cars are loaded with too many gizmos and techno crap, and 'draws' happen.
