Anyone else play paintball?

Paintball is another one of my passions. Anyone else play paintball?

Here's something that I hope others support. Also, anyone who wants to, is welcome to find me on Facebook @ Jose Sore.

I used to a long time ago. There was a group of us that went out and played jungle paintball in deserted areas of brush and/or desert. It was tons of fun but people moved away, their kids got too cool to play with dad and his friends, and just got into other things.

I have never played airsoft but have done some force-on-force training with airsoft. I think that paintball is still more fun.

That's great! When I started playing they only had pistols with the mini CO2 cartridges in the grip. Now, the technology used on the paintball markers are so advanced.

When I first played on a team it was mostly woodsball tournaments. Now, its mostly airball/speedball with air inflated bunkers.

I'm sure there are more pballers out there but havent' seen this thread yet.

Tournament paintball has changed alot. Its been an international sport for a long time but really has been growing in Asia. Matter of fact in places like Indonesia, Malaysia, etc the GOVT sponsors/supports the tournaments. Check out the attached pic.

Here's a good video showing what tournament paintball is now:

My markers have been sitting collecting dust for several years now. Might have to blow the dust off them, pick up a new tank, some paint, and see if I can still knock squirrels out of the tree tops before going out to get painted by the younger faster kids lol.

Sounds good. Don't sell them if you have any of the classic old school markers. Do you have an automag or autococker?

Of course, kids are gonna be faster than older guys but we make up for it with experience or better gun skills.

I'm not fond of some new rules like side coaching. Basically you can have people tell you where the other team is or "coach" when to do a move. To me, it kind of defeats the purpose. Am I playing a team or the crowd. LOL!

I remember way back in the day when Angles came out and were so amazing and $1200. It was totally unfair. The first time I ever played paintball was when the markers were used the pump pistols with the CO2 in the grip and eye/face protection was a pair of glasses!

I still have my lightly modded Spyder with .45 grip. Old school!

LOL! Yeah, I was a gun whore then. I had like 5 markers. I wish I still had my Evolution autococker. Yup, our team was one of the first to use the WDP Angels. First electro-marker to market and was awesome. Then I bought an Eclipse Angel. Oh the memories.

Oh man, people used to use ski goggles thinking it was okay. LOL!

I use an Empire Axe now. Can't beat it for only $350.

Automag with a riffled shorty barrel and an old Tipmann set up for the long ball, both on nitrous. We use to play out in the sticks not on set up fields, nothing like a 10 on 10 played on an acre or three.

Side coaching? That just sounds dull "hey watch our for that guy beside the tire wall crouching down so you can't see him" I'd probably send some paint at the spotter/coach.

Cool! LOL! Yeah, side coaching is just part of the new rules in a league called PSP. Its the dominant league now - not NPPL. NPPL went bankrupt and maybe headed that way again if they can't work out a merger with PSP.

You're probably like me and won't like the ramping rules too. They can shoot ramping capped to 12.5 bps. So, basically if you have a good trigger finger you lost that skill advantage since everyone can ramp. Even though they allow ramping, I still only use semi (capped at 12.5 bps).

We recently got 4th place with a throw together team - never practiced together even. Local tournament but there were 12 teams total and all of the other teams were "real" teams in that they practice almost every weekend. We felt pretty good about our performance.

Here's our team, Gothic Serpent. We even have a female on our team:

I'm not familiar with competetive paintball but stuff like "side coaching" is just ridiculous. There is no sport in that at all. For me, part of the fun if paintball was hunting each other. Ramping is unfortunate too. If all you have to do is have a couple of guys laying down paint full auto, again, there's no sport in that. It's "spray and pray".

Good job at the tournament. Teamwork is so important and being with an ad hoc team like that makes it more impressive.
