WTF happened to Z104?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! JV??

So I've been out of the area for a while, come back today and flip to Z104 to hear.... CLASSICAL!!!! I mean, I'm a fan of classical and all, but they had 103.5! 104 was like one of the last good stations in the DC area. I would usually flip between 101 and 104... that's it! First 99.1 goes, and now 104!

Here's what their web site shows, below. I am a classical geezer junkie but I certainly hope JV comes out of this ok. And, though I am not "DC local", I was able to catch other classical station(s) in the area during our drivebys from NC to NJ/NY, so why do the suit geniuses think they need another one?!

It is not uncommon for a station to "wake up" the next day and be something totally diff, eg rock to "country", etc.

I jes'hope my big ol'Bud is ok in this patio furniture rearrangement.

The Z104 site today:To listeners of Z104 Radio:
(Like angry comments are gonna change anything, right.)

At noon today (Wednesday, January 4, 2005), we said good-bye to Z-104 as it takes its place among the great radio stations in Washington's history.

It has been our pleasure to work alongside the professionals at Z-104. We'd like to thank everyone who called Z-104 home.

To the staff, thank you for your tireless energy. To the listeners, thank you for letting us into your lives, and to the advertisers, thank you for your support.

Now, we welcome a new radio station to this dial position. 104.1 and in Frederick 103.9 are now the new homes of Washington's Classical Station, WGMS.

103.5, formerly WGMS, is now the new home of WTOP Radio, which will continue to simulcast on 1500 AM, 820 AM and 107.7 FM.

Saying good-bye to Z-104 doesn't mean saying good-bye to the music. Mix 107.3, DC 101 and Hot 99.5 all play modern music.

Again, we thank you for your support and hope you will join us in welcoming in a new era in Washington radio.

Honestly, aside from being upset about one more good station out the window, my first thoughts were, Oh Shite, what about JV? This so sucks! WTOP need 2 friggin FM stations and 2 AM stations

JV,

Hope all is well, man. You're very talented, and surely, you'll land something soon. Their loss.

Hey, we need a good DJ here in the Charlotte area, man!

Again, so sorry to hear about this. It certainly sucks. Very best of luck to you!

Juan

Thanks for the well-wishes, y'all. The entire staff was let go, all positions eliminated, you'll notice I asked Drex to change my handle for me . I've been through this kind of thing 3 times before, being fired is the norm in broadcasting. We all got a severance, the company we worked for is more than generous, and some of us may take new positions within the company.

For me, moving out of the DC area is not really a viable option, so I have been fielding calls from people at other area stations who wanted to hire me away before when I didn't want to leave Z104 and I am of course talking to them now

I've got to take my time, look over my options, luckily I have time and $$ to do that.

Not that it's THAT interesting, but you can read more about it here:
