Thanks everyone! Doc, they did ultrasound and found no stones and they concluded that it was a peptic ulcer. I couldn't believe she was in so much pain and still is. She's been home at my in-laws for a few hours now and her dad (who's a physician) had to sedate her with sleeping meds to ease the pain. Her eating and lifestyle habits have to change now, that's for sure.

true true statdoc. although i feel it must be pointed out that a high white count and sudden onset of pain isn't the most typical presentation of benign PUD -- it can be the presentation of perforated PUD. hence, my concern. without seeing the films, examining the patient or seeing the lab tests, i'll reserve judgment. h pylori antibody was probably positive, hence the treatment...

everyone doesn't always have a high white count, nor does everyone with a white count have a surgical problem. the combo, as described, was certainly suspicious. i don't discredit the stress response, but something more than PUD gastritis + stress margination was going on.... as long as she is getting better, that's all that matters....

i certainly hope this takes care of the problem, phong....please let us know if we can be of any help!

As drex says, the most important people evaluating this are her actual doctors, not us "virtual doctors". As long as she is getting better, we are all happy for you both.

Can you give us a progress report in a couple weeks? Take care,

"your virtually awesome Google doctor"

Couldn't afford it. Motel 6, baby!! They leave a little first aid brochure on the nightstand, so I read it. Twice.

In my younger years, I used to make dinner reservations as a "Doctor" and I always get the best table and service!

But seriously it is a great advantage to personally know a Doctor. When my kids were growing up, I always phoned my best friend (a GP) anytime of the day, even a few times in the middle of the night, when I had medical questions.

Now, we're high-tech, so I simply google first but I still call him, and when I start talking as if I'm familiar with my medical questions, his usual answer is " you must be on the internet again"

You guys are great, real or not

Doesn't really seem to work, anymore. Darn it!

I recall a story from my college years. One of my chemistry profs related that just after he got his PhD, he and his wife went on vacation. He registered in the hotel as "Dr & Mrs". Middle of the night, banging on the door, "Doctor, doctor. We have an emergency. Come quick!" He said that he wasn't a doctor off the college campus ever again.
