The phrase I think of is "sense of community". To me, that concept is framed by things like a sense of personal safety, a sense of belonging, a sense of structure (or rules, to use that word), personal investment (whether time or money), and some type of reward, or payback, or benefit, to belonging to any particular community.

When people violate the rules of my community, I want to (politely) point out that there are rules. I think that strengthens community, it doesn't weaken it. I don't know why that would make it feel like high school (as mentioned by a poster above) but perhaps that is more a comment on one person's high school experience, than the concept of community.

Getting pretty philosophical here, but I always enjoyed philosophy.

I have also posted several reminders to posters that put up 'for sale' posts; I usually refrain when I see the now common "Hey, I have these wheels/car/parts/stuff and wonder what they are worth and would anyone want to buy them" posts.

I have been around on this board and its previous iterations since about Day 2, but that and a few bucks will get me on the NYC subway...my point is I agree with QwkAg, BB, JCL and the other supportive posters that a Premo donation of thirty five freakin bucks allows one to support the site, and also to sell their stuff.

If one chooses not to contribute that token, that is a choice. There are many posters here who are not Premo supporters but put up some remarkably informative DIYs, info, opins, etc. We all 'pay' in some way, with some paying via a contribution and some posters paying via good info, and a few doing both.

I haven't studied every car board on the net, but those I do peruse don't always have the level of good solid info, on nearly any topic under the sun and especially about X5s, that this board does, imo.

Full Disclosure/Bio Part: I personally know both Admins, (one has been to my home for dindin, good conversation and sleep), I have consumed flagons of alcohol and hung out with both Admins, and all the Mods, and yet they still let me post here.

Premo or not, no biggie...but any/every Board has TOS and this Board simply requires one to be a $35 contributing poster to sell stuff. Otherwise, use the other net avenues to sell your stuff.
Best Regards, Ol'UncleMotor

No, not really.

As he is free to remind everyone about the rules I am free to wonder why he feels compelled. And others are free to stick up for him. It doesnt make it any less odd to start a thread that includes the just the rules and then bump his own thread.

And you are free to be a dick if it makes you feel good or wise.

I agree with this, actually very much. The sense of community, and how it is generated is quite accurate.
