Is this just a NH fad, or is it more widespread..?

Today I had quite a scare merging onto I-393 because I was in a line of traffic...Two cars ahead of me, two behind. This dumb woman in an Oldsmobile suddenly decides at the end of the onramp to hit the brakes as hard as possible... I had to steer around the car in front of me to miss it.... She almost caused a 5-car pileup, at least! I've been noticing it happen more and more, but this is the first time I've been in real danger from someone hitting their brakes at the end of an onramp.. It's so dumb... You're supposed to plan ahead, and start looking before you merge... Then you pick a hole in traffic... Even if you don't see one at first, one often opens up. But you do NOT hit the brakes! If worst comes to worst, use the friggin breakdown lane... It's SO dangerous to hit your brakes at the end.. It's better to kind of merge sideways INTO a car than to be hit from behind by one that's traveling at a speed of 40mph at the bare minimum! Jeeze...
Ok, done ranting for now...
Yeah, I took my weekly 90-mile roundtrip today... I saw 2 Hummer H1s! Those aren't something I see everyday. And they've got the E-Z Pass signs up at the tolls! They're covered by tarps, but it got me psyched!

While you are supposed to yield the right away on the highway, you sure as hell are not supposed to stop on the on-ramp unless theres a sign to do so (a lot of older highways, aka parkways have stop signs, like Merritt).

Did you honk at her??? I sure would have. Good reflexes.

Does the NH Registry of Motor Vehicles have a website? File a complaint form against her if you have her plate.

Yeah, CJ, Yield means check your 4 or 8 o'clock and merge as much as it means don't stop in my personal driver's ed manual.

Interesting, in California, the Highway traffic has the right-of-way, but usually I am nice and let people on the freeway.

Ask PNG, he's a lawyer and he knows!

In NH those on the ramp have to yield... But my point is that no matter what you shouldn't stop. I usually let people in, too.

When you hit an on-ramp in California you better be doing the same speed as the traffic your going to merge with. Thats only common sence and part of the California drivers test. Heres the actual test questions and answers. Note answer #4

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/interacti...clc2answer.htm

4. When merging onto the freeway you should be driving:

At or near the same speed as the traffic on the freeway.

True, but do you come to a complete stop when you merge on the highway?? I'll tell you what, video tape yourself yielding and stopping at the end of the ramp and we'll see if you get rear-ended
