In the comments someone says that once locked from the outside, you cannot open the doors from the inside. Anyone heard of this? Sounds fishy.

Very unusual. Newer cars have a failsafe that pop the lock open when inside. Looks like it was a 97' 328ci. I mean the handles are tied to the linkages to open the door. So it is very unusual for that to happen. May she Rest in peace. Definitely not a good way to leave this earth.

Agreed.

Makes me think I should go to the garage and do a little experiment. As far as I knew, the worst that could happen if you locked someone inside was that their movements could set off the alarm. I can't believe you would actually be trapped inside an X5; but I will check it out.

I am sorry she is dead and pray for her & her Family.

I predict there is much more to this than defective locks. Why didn't she break a window?

I'd push the windshield out with my feet before I'd die in a locked car.

I doubt a high school student did not have a phone, why not call for help?
