Apple Unveils New Macs Using Intel Chips

I know a few of you were wondering about the keynote, here is what I have found so far...

Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs introduced two new computers running Intel chips at MacWorld this morning, an iMac and the new MacBook Pro notebook. Apple and Microsoft also announced a new five-year agreement formalizing Microsoft's commitment to continue making Office for Mac. See my initial story from the keynote for more information on both developments.

As noted in the story, Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini appeared on stage in a space suit as part of the announcement of the new computers. Apple's plan to switch from IBM to Intel chips was announced last year, but the first Intel-based Apple machines weren't expected until later this year. The new iMac is shipping today, while the MacBook Pro will be available in February.

Apple also announced iWeb, a new part of the iLife suite, for publishing Web sites, blogs and podcasts. And Jobs demonstrated a new feature in the existing iLife program, GarageBand, for producing podcasts. In a tongue-in-cheek nod to all the sites and shows devoted to Apple, he created his own podcast during the show, "Super Secret Apple Rumors." Here's the audio of him recording his script into the computer: MP3, 0:53

Despite speculation about a Mac Mini with digital video recording capabilities, there was no such announcement at the keynote. Apple wasn't stagnant on that front, however. The new MacBook includes an infrared receiver for running the Front Row media browsing program via remote control, expanding that capability from the iMac.

Sorry for the late feedback from show. Had a great time.
The keynote went well and the new MacBook Pro was very snappy with a nice display. Impressive new software for it as well.

Guess who I ran into at the Apple booth?

Why? it's not the windows OS. It's still unix and Apple has always open to virus attacks but no one seems to bother. As far as crashes are concerned the Mac OS today is far superior than the old OS. If an application crashed in the old OS the computer had to be restarted. No more the OS now stands on it's own. When an application stalls you just quit it and restart that application. http://www.apple.com/

I guess it was celeberty day. I ran into Mark Curry ( Commedian) who knows some people I know. I also ran into Herbie Hancock ( again). Had a nice conversation. Sorry I missed you Chankla.

Simple, ever heard of a buffer overflow? It's this that gets exploited and the x86 platform is vulnerable against it.

All i can say is get your Macs now before they make this horrible mistake. This won't last for long after they realize how much of a bad idea it is. Trust me.

Get your Mac now. Because it's not like you have anything else to run except Safari....

If you set user permissions in Windows, it'll be as equally secure as any Mac box. If you setup Windows properly.. it's perfect as well as easy to use.

If you're really paranoid, save your money. I wouldn't get a Mac, I'd buy a cheap Dell or whatever (heck, build your own computer for 500$ if you already have a screen) and install Fedora or Mandrake or whatever the hell you want to install. As long as it's a Linux distro.

The problem with Apple IMO is that you pay a lot for the hardware. OSX rocks, the hardware is still eh though unless you want to start spending big bucks

Edit: I'm not sure why I quoted the buffer overflow post.. I really don't remember. I think I wanted to quote the message about getting the mac right now before they suck. Why would they suck? Because they got faster (therefore better?) hardware? I find that reply baseless, sorry.

Everybody's got an opinion. 6 Years ago they were going bankrupt. Oh well i guess everyone should get what they want. That much I will agree with. As far as Apple hardware is concerned; someone brought out one of these last night.

It was running microsoft word 5.1. My G4 runs Microsoft Word 5.1. To me thats saying a lot about hardware. I got a Mac plus the same time I got an HP touch screen. You know one of those Hp's with the green type. The HP Bit the dust long ago. The Mac Plus is still working and can still share files and applications with my G4. I think that prettry good.
