dkl,
I didn't recall many posts on the HVAC fan blower motor either, until mine started chirping earlier this spring. I have seen a few threads on it since then...

And, the R&R looks like major surgery, esp in terms of time/labor, to replace a fairly inexpensive but necessary part.

We lost our HVAC fan motor on the VetteVert during our two month cross country trip a few summers ago, but the part was ~$100 and it took about 20 mins of labor at a Montana Chevy dlr to repair it.

BMW: stuff ain't easy. I plan on living with our situ until it doesn't work.
GL, mD

mD, awesome to see another birthday post to your E53, it literally is stuck in time because it hasn't aged a day!

Fluids, batt, cooling system aren't too bad of preventative repairs considering the age on them. My X recently rolled past 11 years herself, can't see myself owning anything else.

Keep on driving her until the wheels fall off, and the C5 as well, C7's are for new posers on Instagram anyway

She is still a beaut mD. Hang on to her as long as you can. Mine is on its 12th year of ownership. I bought it brand new back in 2003. Approaching 200K miles and still runs like a champ.
