In the words of David Gergen:

The vote by the House of Representatives today against the bailout bill was one of the worst mistakes I have ever seen the Congress make. It was shockingly irresponsible.

Yes, it is true that Americans are deeply offended by the idea of this bailout and yes, it is inconsistent with principles of a country that believes in free enterprise. But it represents an urgent and temporary intervention by the only institution in our country that can stabilize the financial markets and head off a potential calamity for millions of Americans.

Every Member who voted against the bill today should be held personally responsible at the polls this November if people are badly hurt by this.

Yeah, what a bad government voting with the will of the people who deeply oppose this bailout. Government officials need to protect us from ourselves. It's the Democrat (ic) way.

Good news or bad news that it failed...current poll is a 43/57 split. I'd say the country is very undecided about this, thus...Congress should be as well. Not sure why some groups are trying to pretend the nation is in agreement on this.

You can thank Pig-headed Piglosi and the House Democrats for lack of transparency...

I know I'm not as intelligent as the rest of you about this process. But could someone explain to me what McCain accomplished by suspending (or pretending to do so) his campaign to go back to Washington.

There has been no mention of his pivotal contribution that brought the process in line which would provide a basis for agreement by all parties thus leading to a positive outcome.........

EVERYONE was told by the Speaker that a compromise had been reached.

Where was Obama again?

Your Pro-Obama stance is leaking through Quick.

I guess you have no problem with Obama saying Heck...Just call me if you need my help...This during what is being called the worst financial crisis since the great depression.

Funny how you think that is an OK thing to do seeing he wants to be President in a few short months.

But fine...This is all McCains fault.

So you think the 95 Democrats who voted against the bill were offended by Pelosi's speech? I'm sure some if not most Republicans were upset and so was I when I watched the speech. That does not mean that it was the reason the bill failed.

Yeah...I'd say the press focusing on that is BS.

they did not say...only republicans said they were offended by the comments thus they did not vote....Thats why I am saying as might as well don't invent reasons for not voting 'yes' because we can all see from a mile its a lie...

I only saw the good part of the speech...the surplus we had when Clinton left and now 8 years later

Yeah, who would think a decade later (nearly) the bank account wouldn't be the same? Can't imagine how two wars, Katrina, Tsunami's, terrorist attacks, etc.. can't imagine where the money went.
