genius handlers, imo. 15 mins of notoriety for "Joe:, actually Samuel, not a licensed plumber and probably not even buying the plumbing biz he was bs'ng about... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27221645/ Back at the GoingBrokeRanch, besides the debate on SBOs and their income, taxable or not, most households in the US are not looking at grossing a qtr of a mill this, or next year. I suspect many of us here forget about or, disregard what most of WalMartNation really earns... Not suggesting we "spread it around", but many here are higher income households and some have forgotten what making the reefer payment is all about. BR,mD PS: "Joe" is 34...I think I look "better" at 61, ;>)

No wealth redistribution. Because you're successful should not mean you pick up a larger tab. That is complete and utter BS and simply encourages laziness and failure.

I think Joe the plumber just does not want to pay any taxes at all. Apparently there is a lien against his home for back taxes he owes the state of Ohio.

For an informed (at least I thought I was) voter, I am surprised to say that this is the first time I learned the details of Obama's tax plan (95% tax break vs. above 250K tax increase and the 150-250K gap of no change!) Thanks Eric and others.
Though I don't mind the tax increase, and yes I see why it is patriotic to pay your taxes (additional 3% on what is above 250K is not much). I find it hard to understand how could one feel a sense of belonging and inclusion if they don't pay taxes at all. We need proud citizens not simple residents! |

Taxes are not patriotic.
Milton Friedman - "We have a system that increasingly taxes work and subsidizes nonwork. " John F. Kennedy - "The tax on capital gains directly affects investment decisions, the mobility and flow of risk capital... the ease or difficulty experienced by new ventures in obtaining capital, and thereby the strength and potential for growth in the economy. " Thomas Jefferson - "To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. " Thomas H. Kean - “Higher income taxes are a razor guillotine poised to descend on the bare neck of prosperity.” Robert Half - “People try to live within their income so they can afford to pay taxes to a government that can’t live within its income.” Jim Fiebig - “All the taxes paid over a lifetime by the average American are spent by the government in less than a second.” Art Buchwald - “Tax reform is taking the taxes off things that have been taxed in the past and putting taxes on things that haven’t been taxed before.” U.S. Constitution - “Amendment XVI The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.” Charles Francis Adams - “Rulers do not reduce taxes to be kind. Expediency and greed create high taxation, and normally it takes an impending catastrophe to bring it down.”

Regardless of Joe the plumber's credibility, Obama's answer to his question is what we should be talking about. It is after all the bigger issue.
Obama to Joe the plumber; "It's not that I want to punish your success; I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you that they've got a chance to success, too. I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody." |

I wouldn't call the guy an idiot.
#1 He didn't place himself in the limelight. The two presidential candidates did that and he was pretty balance in his comments regarding how long the whole thing was going to last. #2 He's not the first person to own $1200.00 for taxes. Nothing inherently "idiot" about that unless we have some facts that helps us to reach that conclusion. Quote:
