I don't care if it is private money or not. They are a Teachers Union and they could be using that money to lobby for better schools, smaller class sizes, more funding or fund raising, better working conditions. These are funds taken from teachers salaries (which are too low in my opinion) for Union Dues and the Union decides to spend that money on a "Social Issue" which has very little to do with the majority of teachers.

Besides. It's MY vote and I can do with it what I want. I'm voting yes on 8 because I'm not happy about the Teachers Union supporting them with Teachers dues and I'm not happy the No on 8 people who took the money. If you noticed I made it clear that I was "Leaning" toward a Libertarian position on the issue. That made me UNDECIDED. This outrage is all it takes to turn a vote. I've taken other positions for and against on other initiatives because of WHO was funding the initiative.

Good Riddance...I'd say to ask yourself what you would say if your child was gay. How are you going to feel if put in that situation and you voted "yes" and told your child he wasn't equal to you. Try thinking about it from a different side and it might change your opinion....just my 2 cents

What you do in your bedroom is no concern of mine and the same holds true for my son if he decided to be gay. I won't think any less of him nor of who he decides to share his bed with.

You don't need the word "Married" to make a special bond if you have ALL the legal rights of marriage. As I said...I don't hate gays and your stance and attitude is turning hateful here toward me. Take a look in the mirror and tell me WHO is hating. That tends to be what turns straight people away from your cause.

I'd suggest you be more tolerant of other peoples views and pick your battles better. You're hating over a word.

You can vote for whatever side you want but I would beg you to back up your vote with more then what a teacher's union donated. You are very intelligent (and I've read many of your posts) and all I am saying is that you should really research this beyond your outrage of the donation.

Now that was reasonable. I'm just really upset about the teachers union allocation of funds in a time when the school system in California is in the toilet. I'm very likely to cast my vote in a more reasonable manner come election day but I can't make any promises.

I looked up some information this evening about
proposition 8 and the claim from both sides that
marriage will or will not be taught in schools.

On the one had it will not because they don't
use the term Marriage in the curriculum.

On the other hand California State Law does require
what is called "family diversity" training for school
age children. The premise is school safety but the

Did you notice the statement "building awareness and tools to educate people about acceptance is a hot topic, especially for children in elementary school"?

Perhaps thats what some of the uproar is about. The state is requiring
children in elementary school and K-12 to be educated about acceptance.
And the reason they use is "because it's about diversity and it's about preventing violence."

So In essence they are being asked to accept training regarding acceptance of these so called different kinds of family's some of which will be married as same sex couples. That's something some parents don't agree with and cannot support.

I don't have an opinion or the answer regarding what the state should do about this issue. But it does indeed present in interesting dilemma for all involved. Especially parents who find themselves at odd's with an educational system that is teaching something they don't agree with,
and those who wish to live a lifestyle they want others to accept as normal but in reality is at odds with traditional family structure.

From where i sit it appears that both sides are stretching their truth
to fit their own position which is disingenuous at best.
