That said, anybody who is quick to pull down, degrade, and complain about the next administration without giving it a chance should think again. I can sympathize that Obama may be a hard pill to swallow for many on this board, but the continued negativity will do nothing to move this country forward. If the republicans want to recapture power it will be done by showing class, and define a positive direction for the country. The name calling and fear tactics do nothing to advance the cause.
Well put...if only his grandmother had lived just one more day. the speeches from both Obama and McCain were terrific. IMO the best speech from McCain. Our new President elect inspired and energized many even further with his speech. I received calls from family and friends around our globe and their excitement was uncontrollably manifest...as is evident if you've seen the global videos, pics and reports. Many will always be so quick to pass bearish judgement without even witnessing Obama's doctrine or even making the effort to grasp what truly happened last night and it's meaning to many.

For me, I acknowledged his potential at the debate with Hillary Clinton in Los Angeles when he said: "I don't want to just end the war, but I want to end the mind-set that got us into war in the first place." Obama is now the 44th President of the USA, the number 8 represents many things to many peoples, to me it represents a new beginning...a rebirth. the people have spoken for their republic.

I am optimistic and look forward to bearing witness to more barriers broken but this time with the rest of the world and encourage you all to gain more stamps on your passports.

I, on the other hand have chosen to make lemonade...while some of you exhibit all the signs of a truly bitter loser, the majority have overwhelmingly spoken. How does that lemon taste?

There is a disconnect in the Obama crowd. No one doubts, or doesn't grasp, the historical nature of the election, and the meaning it has to many people, of all races. People were charged up by the guy, and that's fine.

However, there was almost half the country that did not vote for him, because of his policies. Many of that half believe those policies to be detrimental to the well being of the USA's economy and security.

I do not question the goodness of the man, or the gravity of the moment.

I question his ability to deal with the issues this country faces. They are deep, and many, and I am concerned that, while he was busy cultivating his celebrity status, he wasn't thinking through his plans to govern. No one can possibly believe that he an deliver on the stuff that he promised in his campaign. 90% of his speeched were rhetoric along the lines of "trust me, it'll be cool", and the other 10% was stuff this country can not afford.

As I said before, I have heard the enlightened class, on many occasions, state that they were ashamed to be Americans, because of their President. I have not said anything close to that. I hope the moderates (if there are any left) in his party prevail on him to be smart and not overreach.

In the meantime, I hope the moderates in the Republican party prevail on their leadership to come back towards the middle. As for me, I am doing my part in this regard on a local level, with people who have the potential to be national figures in a few years. Governance by the extremes can not work, be if left or right.

I am having a really hard time understanding why questioning policies offends the Obama people, and provokes comments to the effect of "why can't you understand what this means to so many people?", or "how can you not agree with him since he won the election?'

No one can possibly believe that all wounds are healed, racism is over, the economy is improving, and our international affairs are resolved, because a personable, smooth-talking guy from Chicago won the election.

I think he's all show and no go. I hope he proves me wrong.

You forgot the most important part....there was more than half that did. Like him, support him, or criticize him, the man is now the 44th president of the country. Nuff said............Phil

That was pretty well said.

I do personally think that this election was style over substance. Like I said before, I do hope that he lands somwhere near the middle on main issues and doesn't let the left run wild. Only time will tell. I am a little worried, but I am going to give him a fighting chance. Having said that though, I do think it is very fair for the people who did not support him to discuss the issues that they have with him or his policies. Is isn't just a case of being a sore loser (in all cases anyway). There are some legitimate concers and even those that supported him can take off the blinders every now and then. More importantly, the people that elected him need to stand firm and hold him accountable for all that he has promised. Please do not be so fast to let him off the hook if he disappoints us. I would hope that everyone will be all over him as much as they were the current President if they are not happy with the way his is leading this country.

But even if that is true (which I don't think it is), one can argue that style is very important. Eloquent speech, mannerisms, vigor, and energy are all important qualities for the leader of the free world.

The fundamentals of the economy are strong.

McCain could not talk diplomatically and eloquently. I knew Republicans lost the race the day he got the ticket. What a waste of my vote.
