Hi all,

I was soo excited to find this forum, signed up and waited for my approval to post.

Now I can post, I am carless

My Name is Bec, I hail from Canberra and I was the owner of a '03 X5 4.4i black on black. ( my very first bimmer). for all of about 2 weeks. He was soo sweet. But Alas he failed rego inspection ( even though I had an independent pre purchase inspection done, none of these things were picked up) and when the dealer was presented with the list of what needed to be fixed to pass rego, they took my car back

Then I found another one asked a million questions, put a deposit on it, got an NRMA affiliate to do the pre purchase inspection this time, picked up a few minor things. Sent a mechanically minded person up to have a look at it, only to find it was headed down the same path as my lemon, amongst the list of other things that were wrong with it, the dealer said the car is no longer for sale.

I guess I'll have to be patient, and keep searching. If only my budget would stretch for a new one... Ohh but to dream....

Hang in there Bec and welcome, some will disagree but 2004 on is the better buy, manual /diesel if that suits would be perfect, no transmission issues to deal with then but you might be lucky as some of us have been with auto's.

what is your budget? you should able to pick up a decent E53. Any particular reasons why you'd prefer 4.4 V8 over 3.0d?

Not sure what your budget is?

My scenario was buy the best E53 I could find or scrape the bottom of the barrel for an E70 .. this was a no brainer for me I went with the E53.

So in my opinion and from my experiences take a look at some BMW Premium Selection cars... sure you will pay a little more

BUT

that is what I did and I got myself a nice one, they will not sell you one without full service history and part of being a premium selection vehicle is the car must be in 'as new' condition. (for example my car had half worn tyres on the front so they put a new pair of Pirellis on) You also get 12 months factory warranty from date of Purchase and the first service is on the house (well you pay for it really don't you?)

Very pleased with the car I bought! It's almost like new.

well I'm finally back. I have a car again this time '07 (e53 upgrade). It is much better than the other two that I have had for short periods of time.

Need to fix up a few things to pass rego, so in the process of sourcing the parts.

It's it such a pleasure to drive.

I am looking to upgrade the head unit to a clarion head unit that has USB integration, so as to not have to worry about Cd's.

It doesn't have a cargo blind, but not to sure if I actually need it. I do want to get the rubber mat for the boot though.

Welcome back and congratulations on the purchase.

Do you mind me asking what was so wrong with the first one to fail rego inspection? It must have been some very serious.

Welcome to the board, even though it is a year after you first posted!!! you got '07, so it is an E70 model right? because, I think that the RHD E53 were last produced in September of 2006 (cut off date is August, so, maybe yours is still E53?)

Please read up on this forum and any other reliable sources you may find about changing the headunit - E53 is using iBus and the E70 is using MOST for the module communications for onboard electronics and beheading the factory unit may present some problems in the future...

Again,

welcome onboard!!!

Hi Bec,

I just got myself an E53 3.0d sport, which had the standard Business single CD. Can't see myself swapping CD's out every 30 minutes in this day an age, so I went on the hunt on Google.

I like a factory look, (all the double din apperture covers I've seen look ordinary IMO) so investigated iPod connections. Found an 'iConnect' solution from www.thecarkitcompany.com.au which uses the CD stacker input, and it works really well. I like that I don't lose control over the iPhone/iPod when it's plugged in (my old Alpine H/U locked me out when it was plugged in) so making calls and selecting different songs/playlists is really straight forward!!!

I ponied up for a Parrot CK300 for a blue tooth solution and a Connects2 steering wheel interface, so all the steering wheel buttons work as they should too!!!

Anyway, I thought I'd mention it in case you were interested in other options??

All this assumes you use iPhone/iPod for your MP3's, but either way.......

Cheers, enjoy your new beast,

Phil

Each car I have brought has failed to pass rego. And generally for most of the same reasons,
Oil Leaks, Breaks, Tyres, Lower control arm bushes.

This one is the same. I have ordered some bit to change out as the dealer is being a douche and won't honour his original agreement, so I will be fixing the car to get it registered and then taking him to small claims to get money back on the repairs.

It is the last of the E53 and is marked as the upgrade 2? its a bit of a pain as the manufacture stamp is march 07 and insurance go by this but when searching for parts etc, I just select 06.

so far so good apart from the issues stopping me from transferring into my name and registering.
I have an Ipod and Samsung Galaxy, I have a Bluetooth unit (portable) in the car, but apparently it has the blue tooth option, I just can’t figure out how to get it to work.

The clarion unit is a double din and looks like it will sit quite nicely. It’s about $1450 installed making sure that the steering controls work etc. Although looking at the controls, they said that we need two sets. But I’m not sure if that is right as one set is for the stereo and the other is for the cruise control so shouldn’t be integrated.

Also they are saying that it has an amp, but I have not seen anything, can anyone confirm or deny the Amp thing?

As for pictures, I have the ones the dealer took. I am yet to give it a good proper clean and take it out for some pretty pics. Every time I attempt to do the wash it rains. I did a lazy and took it through BP car wash which was pretty crap… so need to find a good stool so I can reach the roof myself.

I'm not sure how I can uplod a picture from my PC. I can see the option to load from a web page but thats it. Am I missing something?
