Thermostat question

Guys,

The temp gauge in my '04, 3.0, X5 always stayed at the mid point of the gauge winter or summer (110k on it)...

At the end of last winter i noticed that the temp gauge wasn't going over...

Thanks for the info on "how to remove", it worked perfectly.
The housing is now painted and looking like new. www.automotovetouchup.com is a good source for the factory base coat / clear coat...

Does anyone know the proper procedure for removing the painted outer shell on the outside rearview mirror?
