Try taking off some of the panels in the trunk...

Try taking off some of the panels in the trunk area to see if you can locate the piping. In the meantime, don't use your rear washer.

Hopefully you'll find it and are able to fix it yourself.

thanks everyone!! I changed the valve cover gasket and spark plugs and it was a pretty straight forward job. The hardest part was getting that last vc bolt in the back next to the passenger's side...

Anyone have any tips on removing the valve cover and replacing the gasket? I've never touched the engine on the X3 aside from changing the oil. It just looks like it can get cramped...

I don't see how it can be done without opening the door. the bottom and sides have clips and the top is sitting on a lip with clips that you have to pull up on to remove.

Is your X3 one of the years taht was recalled for airbag problems? Maybe just bring the car into the dealer and ask for the airbag/mat replacement under the recall... Just an idea to throw around...
