I used the tail pipe for ground...and you can't determine which is 12v side for the rear bulbs, side marker is much easier in my mind. 2 wires, no fuss.

If it was part of the vacuum system (ie no fluid transfer) a repair would probably fix it permanently but I wouldn't risk it being coolant. That's +13psi of pressure on that plus vibrations/bulbs.
