No need for Self Leveling Suspension for Towing (IMO) ... when I had my 3.0 I towed quite a bit and never felt like I needed Self Leveling.

Careful! Not all 18's clear the front brake calipers... I learned this the hard way, my front rims are all scratched to hell from the brake calipers rubbing them when I got my brake pads replaced.

something sounds wrong with your vehicle - my 4.8 has no trouble blasting away the competition... now for me it is really how I hit the gas because if I don't hit it quick it stays in stupid economy...

I don't know about reliability - but in switching from the 3.0 to a 4.8 I have found it nowhere near as smooth and the tranny SUCKS on the 4.8... that being said you can't beat the power - love it!

Mine went at 22k, the car was driven in DC and the previous owner was clearly a hard driver - with my driving they will last much longer. I really think it is all about the area you drive in.

My '05 has the latest - and it's certianly not the greatest. The 4.8is software is just sucky and aparently there is/will be no fix since the E53 is done. I switched from a 2004 3.0 that was silky...

I've done some semi-serious offroading with the X5, I had the 3.0 and now have switched to a 4.8. I have to say that the 3.0 was much better due to the softer suspension. The 4.8 is so sport oriented...

I average 18-18.5 in my 2005 4.8is, it has about 21,000 miles and it is a mix of city and highway driving.
I'm pretty happy considering my 2004 3.0 got the exact same mileage!
