Ok I unplugged the HP EGR wiring just behind the throttle. The hesitation is now gone and MPG is back up. Power seems lower than normal which seems odd. Still no codes stored.

Make sure the cam shafts are the same. Sometimes trucks get a cam that is better for torque.

What failed on your engine? It is always good to know what to keep an eye on.

Who makes the transmissions in X5s? Specifically the 3.0L. My father has an 03 3.0L that shifts great. His other 05 4.4L does not shift so good. I think the 4.4L uses ZF. What about the 3.0L.
