I have the same issue,replaced the rear wiper and arm, with e53 exact replacement still does the same thing,now going to try the e70 wiper with arm, an see what happens.

I would get a good battery maintainer,and not let the X5 sit without any voltage .If you can I would start it once a month at least.to get oil up into the engine components.

I had an oil leak on the ground ,picked up a 5.00 OFHG and that fixed the problem,I did it myself.Its been good for about 5 yrs now.the old gasket was dry and brittle.I would try the OFHG first.

Sounds like the battery doesnt have enough amps to start the engine. If after chargering the battery for a day and it still doesnt start,could possibly be a bad battery. May need to do a load test on...

Thanks, I will spray my bolts down with penetrating oil and have a better look at the bolts. We get tons of salt up here. The lock nuts I will definitely replace.
