I was surprised that they put a Michelin tires on my E70 3.0si. Most of people getting Bridgestone tires. Maybe I am just lucky.

no it looks like you are right-

STANDARD SPEC:
18 x 8.5 Star Spoke (Style 210) light-alloy wheels, and 255/55R-18 run-flat all-season tires

what does it say on the side of the tire?

These run-flats do not have internal rims. The sidewalls are reinforced. However, that being said, I agree with you the sidewalls still break down. It has happend to me as well.

It says:
"BRIDGESTONE"........."DUELER H/L 400"......"255/55R18"

Bridgestone's site isn't very helpful, they just say it's standard equip on the MDX and Q7. I thought all X5s did have RF, even ones with the spare (like mine). huh.

Wait-----I found this page:

http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?ti...Sport+Run+Flat

it says the run flats that come on the "BMW X5" are the Dueler H/P

I have H/L

My X5 is about a month old.

The dealer offered me tire insurace for $1000. It covered punctures...but only punctures NOT in the sidewall. It did not cover damage due to construction plates, etc. It did not cover tires damaged by hitting a curb. It covered rim damage...but not from curb rash.

Since my only tire issues in the last few years were curb or sidewall releated...I declined.

Of course, at 600 miles I got a large screw into one of my Bridgestone Run Flats. Murphy's law strikes again.

The dealer said they did not work on runflats. I began to have visions of having to get a new $200-400 tire....but...

They pointed me towards a local tire shop that was "Bridgestone Run-Flat Certified". They took me right in and repaired the tire in what I would consider a generally "traditional" manner. The price was steep ($75)...but they treated my car, tire and rim with kid gloves.

So yes, the insurance would have covered this repair...so far I am still ahead by not getting the insurance...but 40,000 miles to go yet.

Bridstone does not warranty the tire?

look at post 3 above.
