HPFP is not the issue. That was checked at the very first visit to the dealer.

Engineer from design team working on my vehicle along with M division guys in Germany, I assume via computer, to decipher error codes. Word from dealer today was "to see what direction to head in next". My response, "the direction of a new vehicle".

I am fed up. Period. Just disgusting for such an expensive machine.

Jason,

I am sorry to hear of all the issues you are having with your M. If you don't mind me asking, what dealer is doing the repair work on your truck, BMW Store? I hope things work out for you. Another X5M or a 5 or 7 series if not?

That's bad news, mines also still at the dealer with the rejection letter although they still want me to take it back, when fixed, more like if fixed!!

Had the fault for nearly 4 weeks now and the car is only 6 weeks old.

What message do you see on the idrive and can you get the OBD fault codes from the dealer. Might not help but someone in the forums may be able to offer some tech advice.

On mine they are now changing the vanos unit on the end of the nearside inlet camshaft, as in their words, "its the only thing that could be wrong". I pointed out a multitude of other things that could cause it including software, ecu etc but they are only interested in their *assumption*.

I would not wish the experience of a new BMW on my worst enemy!

BMW Store is not doing my service. I live too far away for it to be flatbed'd there. The dealership is being fantastic about the service. Almost bought this vehicle from this dealer, however, could not get anyone to email me or call me back to finalize. My only concern with them is will they be supportive in getting this resolved with a buyback. My understanding is that I have to go through the servicing dealer to get that done.

I have very little belief this will get resolved. There is just so much uncertainty about which direction to move in, which leads me to believe they dont understand this engine very well. As a result, considering I was going to move to the F10 M5 when my current lease was up, I am now giving that second thoughts as it uses a tweaked version of the same engine.

Indeed the M5 will be using a pretty much identical engine, they really need to get these issues addressed. The X5 50i engine (N63) is also a variant of the S63 we are having problems with.

I now see 50i customers starting to get the engine whine issue :thumbdown

Maybe BMW have issues with all the V8 turbo engines?

jasonrhcastle 11-18-2010 04:32 PM

The issue is present in the X5 50i, X6 50i, X5/6 M and F10. This was confirmed by BMW to me today. I am looking, per BMW, at a minimum of 2-3 weeks before this issue is resolved or not. They are working with BMW AG, and with the design team to find the issue. Still no clear cut answer. The believe these is a vacuum/pressure fault between the engine and the turbos. The situation, which makes sense since my faults occurred under full acceleration and that would elicit this fault, has not been reproduced since they have had the car back in their possession.

So, most likely looks like I will be getting a replacement at some point, and this was the thought of BMW Service Manager with whom I spoke today.

So, looks like I am in my 328i loaner for the immediate future.

Well I have had a positive response from BMW today but if all these cars have the issue you are suffering from then I don't know what to do, I have been offered:-

1. Take mine back repaired (who knows when though) with 5 year service plus as a gesture. I normally sell the cars before 3 years and about 25k miles so although it looks nice on paper its worth about 1 £450 service to me.

2. Have a new replacement car but it must be an in stock car, this leaves me only the choice of white or black and both cars have extra options so they want me to cough up more for the extra options (that I don't want).

I asked if I could have a new car built to the same spec and was told no due to the UK 2.5% VAT change and 4 month build time.

At least I have options, so give me some opinions, what would you do, would you go for a different colour??

Forgot to say mine is monte carlo blue

I don't know what your legal rememdies may be in the UK. Perhaps consult an attorney (or in your case a solicitor) and see if you have other options available. If not, I would take the new one and pester them until the extra you have to pay for the options is relatively reasonable.

jasonrhcastle 11-18-2010 05:59 PM

I would take a new one. Mine is carbon black, and if I get a chance to replace it, will be with a alpine white one.

Had a meeting this morning at the dealer and BMW had already decided to offer me a new build option as well so we are over the moon, I went prepared to accept the white car (just not keen on black) but can now have a new factory build and can adjust the options as well.

Build time is going to be circa 14 weeks so they are giving me an X5 loaner for the duration, I can honestly say my faith has now been restored, hopefully we can now put this one behind us and start over again.

Thanks BMW
