Got it last night and have had time to go over it. Definitely a number of things I wish I had known about but that's how dealers roll. It does have a noise on startup so I am going ahead and getting a quote for guides from a local place I trust for stuff I don't feel like messing with. Both mirrors are floppy but the parking fold assist feature still works fine. The radio volume and function knobs don't work. Only the presets. There is a slight squeak when turning the steering wheel left or right but I had this with my M5 and think it's the within the upper column and just needs to be greased. Could be the clock spring etc. Sounds like a cold weather noise. Hood struts are shot but no big deal. Kidney grill tabs are broken but I have new ECS's coming.

It drives very well and it's in pretty good shape otherwise. I can tell it's had paint work because I know what to look for but it was extremely well done and there is no masking other than subtle soft line tape seam on the rear passenger door jam. No sign of frame damage etc and car fax is clean.

My wife drove it for a bit last night and really seemed to enjoy it. She said it felt much faster and braked better than the V70R even though specs show the R is actually faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile. It's the torque... :)

For $10,750 on a vehicle we plan to just drive, I can't complain but so much from a a sight unseen purchase from a dealer. Startup noise is the only real bummer but I shot an email to the dealer seeing if they would work with me. They have good feedback and lots of comments on google and eBay about them working with the buyers on some issues. Fingers crossed but since it was bought as is, I can't expect too much.

So there are no engine codes, no check engine light, no oil pressure light on right? Sounds like the car is in fine order. Start up rattle is common on these engines until the tensioner ,timing guides, etc are addressed. So I would be surprised that the dealer would do anything plus there a number of these vehicles that exhibit this behavior and sell everyday. For the price you paid you just have to put some maintenance money in it and make it right. No big deal for the BMW owner/enthusiast. Nice X5 by the way

Good to know, thanks. I will have them do the fluid and filter change just in case. If the motor or trans go, it will get an M5 S62, 6 speed and M5 diff swap (converted to RWD).

I haven't checked for codes but the only error is license plate lights. No oil pressure light or trifecta etc. I agree on the price vs potential required maintenance.

Yea this is an option in the back of my head as well haha. I'd love to swap in an S62. If there is one person who has the cojones to do it, I know you will

I don't think I've seen anyone perform a clean swap though

Can anyone tell me how to remove the rear sliding cargo cover? It is rattling. Do I just remove the top cover at the front and then lift it up?

Yup, I just found the tab you press and lift out :)

I had a similar experience buying my 4.8is sight unseen. Technically, I could have walked away from it since I flew out to California where the dealer selling it was to complete the purchase and take delivery... but it was too nice for me to pass up. But it had less than perfect paint (lots of touch ups) and had been touched in the back so the rear bumper doesn't line up perfectly. Aside from that though it turned out well.

You can always count on dealers to leave out things that enthusiasts look for... fingers crossed for you that it's just the tensioner.
