- Silver Vein - my pc guy told me to swing by as he has a couple variations in that

-debated just DIY Plasti Hi Temp Wrinkle, but the prep time alone, I would rather just PC

FYI. Refinishing the gasket groove is the key to a leak free cover. If you coat the groove with a wrinkle finish the gasket wont seal as well it would on a smooth finish and you'll end up again with a leaky cover.

Magnesium covers are hard to coat. If the surface has pitting or corrosion it will not accept the coating very well long term.

On my radar, is not only the groove, but the 2 sides of the channel, where it's metal on metal with no high points.

I have yet to get the wiki on whether all of the mag has to be sealed once cleaned. As it comes from the factory, whatever paint they use, they def used it on the inside cover. Can't recall whether the channel was raw or not.

For the inside, I was thinking of going on this direction.

PC sent me some pics of the covers today after being dipped clean and then lightly abraded. For a hot minute, I considered telling him to just PC clear it - no color. Me wonders how fast or not the raw finish would look before it oxidized. Days, weeks, hrs ...

I've PC'ed 5 or 6 sets of VC's for local guys. No issues. Runs about $275 and turn around time is a week on average. Make sure the people know beforehand that these are magnesium so they don't get the furnace too hot for too long. Nobody needs that fire.

Solvent dip them after bead or shell blasting them to get the oils out, acid etch lightly and powder away. You'll be happy.

The silly/crazy thing is , the plastic covers like 85% of the VC. All you see is a 3"x4" area on each side. Fashion for only the owner who knows it's there, ya know.

True, it does kind of suck that more of the vc's don't show.
