No recovering it. I use an acpro old can infront of and stacked to my gauge lines and little fill compartment to introduce UV dye. I have never had one this bad. Wont build any vaccume

With a system that won't build vacuum, the leak should be very obvious.

Well i think i am gonna leave the compressor for now. I am taking over to Homestead (moms house) tomortow to do oil change. I dug a service pit in spare garage when i was 9. I will take lines off. Replace as many Orings as i can & see if i can build pressure/vaccume. So i can check where UV dye coming out. Probably not compressor. I hooked up a friemd from highschool to the e39 chassis. He wanted A VW. I said i can fix most things on these. I have found him 2 528i 5 spd, both 2000 year. He has over 550k on the one & 130k on the other. Drives 1.5 hours to work every other day. His ac still workes great. He is merciless on those poor 2.8l i6. But with a bad wheel sensor, no mph reading, just garman gps he had it up to 170mph. The RR was tryn to fire him and giving him short calls. As not by contract. & in the middle of the night.

Ok, unplugged pressure switch under airbox. Fan takes off like a 747. Getting cooler air from vents. But not cold. Could be ambient cooler temps outside. So.... compessor? Or ..... what is longest life out of a compressor clutch for AC. Guy i bought from purchased with 75000 on it. CPO. SEEMS TO HAhave been well maintained except last oil change is overdue & sunroof drains plugged.

EVAP leaks are very common on these X5s. Dont rule this one out until you have it checked.

Ok, i put in UV dye a couple days ago. I did oil change today. I am suffering because of it. I went to the Homestead. Was able to stand under x5. New belts on serpentine, new tentioner on AC belt and new ac belt. I found the leak, 2 bolts , allen head, holding halves of compressor together are loose. Lots uv dye coming out. I was gonna toghten up an see if it holds a vaccume. Is thete a gasket inbetween 2 halves of compressor? Or o ring?

Also i have been tryn to upload a pic of the compressor leak. Samsung s5 phone. Says iploading but cant preview. Cant post. I resized image. Seems to be right.

So looking through the DME section of menus I came across this.
I also found the function to activate the fan to test and it did NOT turn on so now I'm pretty sure it's the fan that's dead. Now to find the part

Nick, could you let me know how to activate the auxiliary fan with this scanner? I couldnt find where in the menus to activate this.

I also have bmw scanner 1.4, I'm not sure if I could activate the fan with that.

I could never get my USB scanner to work with INPA on my
Laptop though or else I would try that route.

thanks hpy. so when I unplug the pressure sensor nothing happens with my aux fan. I also see no movement when I cold start the car. I would have replaced my fan already but for some reason when I scan my car, no DME faults are present.

I'll probably go ahead and replace the fan.
