Replace the fan, a fault code for the fan wont come up on a normal OBD scan tool.

yes I agree it won't show up on a regular OBD scan tool.

That is why I used a foxwell nt510, as well as a PA Soft BMW scanner 1.4.0 by usb to a laptop. Both had no fault codes under DME.

you can use the foxwell scan tool to activate or test the fan. Scan the DME module and look for the setting under component activation.

Since nothing shows on your scanner, I would connect 12 volts to the +/- wires at the fan and see if it runs before buying a replacement.

05 4.4 x5. Finally got the AC compressor in. Pain in the ass. But doable. Dont have to pull radiator, but have to pull hoses that side. Lots of ratcheting wrenches, 2 lockable flex head ratchets. Also had to pull aluminum skid plate that tortion bars attached to. All in all not horrible. It is up and cooling. Definitly 1 person on top & 1 on bottom holding, going back in. No need to pull passenger fenderliner. I didnt take pics. I had a friend owe me some time, he did most. I was holding compressor for last third of it. Total,6.5 hours including vac down & charge. Not fun, but total, $575 with 100 to friend, & core return.

thanks nick5174. fan replaced now and I used your directions to test/activate the fan with the scan tool before putting everything back together!
