Air Conditioning

Helloe everyone been trying to diagnose an issue I have with my AC. In an attempt to get it working I bought a can of AC Pro and put it in. The compressor turns on and I noticed that it is a bit colder but still not as cold as it should be. The gauge on the can shows it being at the top of its range so I only put 12 ounces in and resited the urge to add more. I did notice that the aux fan did not turn on when the AC is on. Other then the fan being bad what can keep the fan from coming on?

There is a fuse to check. If the fan is working it should spin when you first start the engine for it's check test. There are other potential causes for your problem but start with engine start up test and then the fuse and see what you find.

Like everything else that's in the car, the Komputer turn the fan on and off and varies the speed of the fan. You can scan the X to see if the DME has logged a trouble code for the fan. If you drive on the highway at speed with decent ac, but notice that once in traffic the ac is no longer working, the fan is most likely bad. If you find the 50 amp fuse in the fuse box blown, the fan is shorting the circuit. The fan is the only electrical item on that circuit and to blow a 50 amp fuse you have a dead short.

Ok thanks I did check the 50 amp fuses and they are all good. I will read the codes with my scan tool. I also read that if I disconnect the pressure sensor it will engage the fan.

The fan on mine doesn't switch on either. My AC blows cold air but it's strange, sometimes it freezes and sometimes it's ok but not how it should and other times for a bit it would do no cold at all.

So yesterday I was driving around in the rain and the AC was working great. So this confirms that the aux fan not spinning is my problem. Code reader only gave me the code for IHKA AUC sensor. I dont think that's the problem.

Generic OBD II reader will not read the DME module in our BMW except for the emission PIDs. You need to a BMW scanner to read the DME and see if a fan fault code is logged into the DME.

I know this, my scanner is far from generic https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e150f27540.jpg

But can it read all the modules and let you know if it passed or failed the scan?

nickt5174 05-21-2017 07:10 PM

Yes it can, I can even activate certain modules from the unit. But there were no specific error code other then the one error pictured.
