UPDATE
CTEK charger finished Final Battery voltage 13.6v Installed Battery back into X5, tested voltage again with Battery leads NOT connected, 12.7v (low in my book for a freshly charged battery) Connected Vehicle leads, retested voltage 12.2v (what happened here?) Went to start vehicle Inserted key turned to Ignition No.2, NO LIGHTS, NO CRANKING.... Nothing Tried 3 more times Played with Auto Trans mission, moved from Park to Neutral, back to Park. Retried starting the vehicle, No Dash Lights, No Cranking. Radio and Interior lights work fine Tested Battery voltage again, 12.17v Seems buying a 3rd CTEK charger was a waste of money :( ANd for a Battery that was tested to 500CCA this morning at Battery Shop, also seems strange. Only thing i have left is to try a new battery |

Try taking it back to where you bought it if you can, it does have a 24 month warranty. All these things certainly do appear to be battery related issues. Going through 3 batteries in a few years is also not normal, so something is draining them or maybe the limited driving is not helping keep them charged either. If you have a CD stuck in the stacker, then pull the power from the back of it, as you can't use it anyway and it might be continually cycling trying to eject or read it. The key battery also charges through the ignition, so not a good idea to leave it in for long periods when not running. |
Amazingly the CD stacker sorted itself out during all of this
Eject cartridge will all CD's in it. So i left it out. Yes, i agree, it does totally seem Battery orientated. I'm now back at my workshop were the spare Battery is. It displays the correct voltage for a Calcium MF Battery. As for what the Battery should have delivered this morning while being tested. To be honest, i'm not sure what a Battery is meant to deliver after 18months You'd think what ever is written on it, after all, 24month warranty! The funny thing, the Battery on my workshop bench is a Warranty Replacement from the last time (18 months ago). Its been tendered on a weekly basis. Yep, there is a common theme here |

I'm not sure if you've mentioned it and I've missed it, but exactly what battery is in it? Model number?

Saga Continues
I have returned 3 days later with a brand new battery Before installing it, i test the battery that is in the vehicle, it measures at 11.89v Probably a touch lower because all the interior lights are on. I proceed to start the vehicle, key to position 2, all the dash lights up, vehicle starts Turn the car off. Try again, starts perfectly Although the DSC, ABS and Brake Warning Lights remain illuminated when vehicle is running (as before) Try to start the vehicle a third time and nothing. No dash lights, No cranking, Nothing..... Back to where i left it last time. At this point i install the brand new battery, voltage reading 12.7v Try to start the vehicle, nothing. Try again, nothing. It's like the lights are on, but nobody is home...... I leave the vehicle for 30minutes Return and decide to see if it will start. Turn key to position 2, dash lights up, it starts without hesitation! Turn the vehicle off, try again, starts fine Turn the vehicle off once more, try again, starts fine. Turn it off, starts again..... (As before the DSC, ABS and Brake Warning lights remain on when started) At this point i have no idea. EDIT: Left Vehicle for 1 hour, Returned, Tried to start, Position 2, No Lights, No Cranking. Seems i can rule the battery out at least. Whole thing makes no sense to me |
I don't suppose it could be Battery Cable
I had an older car (can't remember which one) that had an issue with a fusible link in the positive cable that caused no power under certain conditions (that I also can't remember). |
