Retractable Cargo Floor
Is this an option that most would say is worth getting on the X5? I'm still looking for a pre-owned X5 and I think this would be a nice option to have on the X5.
If you have it do you use it alot, really worth having, worth waiting to find one that has it? I think it would be good for groceries and other small packages, so one does not have to stretch to pull them out from the tailgate. But would I use it enough to want to wait to find one that has it. I'm concerned that it will rattle over normal driving, is that a concern? Woud like to hear your opinions, positive or negative. |
I love it and use it often. Of course, I haven't owned an X5 without it so... It does not rattle at all.
Two minor drawbacks: 1. It is heavy so lifting it to get to the spare tire take a bit of arm. Might be challenging for ladies of smaller stature. 2. Because it sits on top of the cargo floor, you must remove the compartment cover to get to the cd changer instead of just flipping it down. If I had to choose again I would opt for the load floor every time. |
love it

I have the retractable load floor and use it all of the time. I'm able to get to my CD / DVD location without any problems. I would definitely get one again.

.....i kinda like mine, gave me easy access to the amp and crossovers for the new stereo, BUT: I swear it must weigh nearly 40 lbs!!! I'm seriously considering duplicating it out of fiberglass. Its nearly 3/4 of an inch thick, maybe they made it heavy so i WOULDT rattle.... i like mine, but using it for groceries kinda bites, when you go to unload the bags and pull the tray, everything usually flops over and your bag contents scatter into the spare wheel area. My 2 cents.....

I have the sliding load floor and always use it. I am in a band and load heavy bass cabinets all the time. It certainly is useful. As others have stated, there is sometimes a rattle. Mine has a bad rattle. My X5 is CPO'd, and I just got it back from the dealer. They are backordering a few parts. They are replacing the rails and the clips. My floor doesn't lock into place when all the way in. That appears to be part of the rattle noise. No charge!
As for the weight of the floor when accessing the spare, I don't see that as an issue. It has a pull down leg that supports it. Pretty simple design. Good luck in your search. Quote:

Retractable load floor can be useful but you loose precious few inches of already limited cargo space. I had them in my previous 01 X but opted not to get it in my current one.

I ordered my x5 with the retactable cargo floor but when it got the the dealer it didnt have it. The damn salesman for got o check that box. The reason why i want it is because the tailgate makes it really hard to load stuff in to the X unlees you place it on the gate and slide it in. its hard on your back too. But i do agree with breyton x5 that it does derease your cubic feet of storage area and with the X5 its pretty tight already without it.

If you're buying new, it might be worth lookin into this. They are SUPER-rare to find in used vehicles. I wouldn't hold out just for this.

can you replace retractable cargo floor
My 2006 came with a retractable cargo floor which I can do without (have dog need extra height for him to get in back seat). Can you replace the retractable floor with a standard one ? If so any idea on where I can order this ?
Thanks Dennis |
