Same here EOD, speedy recovery for your boy. Fortunately kids heal amazingly and usually handle the discomfort better than most adults.

Our son did the exact same thing (twice ) but with less injury. Doc wanted to give him stitches, but I cleaned and super glued it for less scarring. Wife was not pleased until I had her talk to my surgeon bud who said it was the right way to go. Inch lower though and he would have been in danger of losing an eye.

I'll be offline next weekend (?or so) as my son fell and hit a table edge and on the way to the ER and maxillofacial surgeon for a dislocated jaw [emoji53] I blasted 3 speed cameras and a red light camera so I expect a 24hr jail sentence along with 6k SAR in fines to be handed down within 7 days.

Jaw was manipulated into place and all seems fine now, besides an crying toddler I am sure the glaring/crying Asian women doesn't give a rats ass about jail at the moment.

This photo was taken on the way home and was the only thing worth a shit last night.....

I thought about trying to pass him since I already have an upcoming event with the judiciary [emoji28]

Glad to hear your son is on the mend. It's terrifying when stuff like that happens, but they heal fast and usually forget about it, so they can do it again

Hopefully when you explain it to the judge he'll understand.

EODguy 03-19-2021 12:14 PM

Thanks guys.

He's acting like it's all good but has a monkey lip and a bruise (just showing) on his back from being held down on the table. He's much stronger than I thought. As for the judge if I even get to talk to them.... we'll see, but I am pretty sure that being a pork eating crusader is going to limit the effectiveness of my explanation. Most tickets are sent to your phone and show up on your bank account and abshier (do everything, tracking, payment) app. I also need a new alignment and balance on the front end.

At least I didn't beat the guards ass for trying to take our temperature before entering the hospital, although it would have been the best place for it to happen in the security guards experience....

Yep! I know how it goes as well. I got 3, from twenties to teens.

Our youngest chin must of had a bullseye on it. She opened it not once, but twice. Had to be glued like Crystal said. Second time around, she opened the lip as well. To this day, there is a slight nerve damage to the lip. The wife is still pissed.

After the first incident my wife put those corner protectors on everything. We still have them everywhere as the boy (now 4) still jumps around and launches himself off couches, me, tables, or any combination of the 3.

These things. They have prevented many another gash and the wife has a stash of them here for when the adhesive on one gives up and needs replacing.

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....L._SL1500_.jpg

Here's our boy's gash before cyanoacrylate treatment. He's calm in this picture, he was much less so during treatment and then dressing. Poor guy. Like you EOD, holding him in place had me using much more of my weight than I had anticipated being required.

Cuts and bangs on the head and face are always unnerving cause they tend to bleed so much. Glad he's okay.

My son cut his scalp to the bone on a door latch plate at age 4. The CEO passed out, excuse me, took a nap while holding him on the exam table as the doc cleaned the wound. He was okay though and helped the doctor "wake mommy up" afterwards.

crystalworks 03-19-2021 04:23 PM

You're right about the bleeding. I was surprised at how much/quick blood was flowing. I had to tell his Mom not to come in to the room for fear of an unscheduled "nap." Once I had it cleaned and covered I let her come in and freak out about how it was my fault the boy had pulled the old foam corner covers off and we hadn't replaced them yet.

Funny, when I split my heel stepping on a broken glass, and was standing in a puddle of blood in the kitchen I don't remember her being nearly as concerned. :D

EOD, I think I see the corner protector in your image now. Missed it before. Glad he's okay and fingers crossed for you with the local constabulary.

Glad to here your boy is OK! Too bad for potential incarceration.

On another note, I was reading up on the Grumman Albatross HU-16C (my dream toy when I win a lottery, ha) and found an article about the PYB-5 that made me think of your last desert adventure and your notes about being considered an infidel.

If interested skip 2/3 of the way down the page to the bold "Nightmare windup of family’s dream trip–as told by Thomas Kendall". It's a true story about a well to do civilian owner of a PYB-5 vacationing in Saudi Arabia in 1960. The incompetent Saudi army and nomads thought his plane was an Israeli spy plane and shot at his plane nearly killing them and destroying the plane.

Looking back it's obvious that the gaps were there because of temporary flashy cams just adding to the "awesomeness" of the day.[emoji53]

Why does the World Meteorological Organization, the US National Weather Service, and all the news organizations & weather services all insist that Death Valley held the hottest place on earth record forever...never seeming to notice the ungodly hot temperatures I've read about in other countries (Saudi Arabia, Libya, etc.)?

Here's an article from Accuweather.com https://www.accuweather.com/en/weath...isputed/979835 that never mentions hot weather overseas, as displayed by many of EODguy's photos.

bcredliner 07-13-2021 02:43 PM

Wow, this sure took a U turn.

All the link says to me is there is no worldwide standard for measuring temperature and all reported temperatures are suspect. And, some of those registering temperatures are not credible as they lack the expertise to do so. The 1913 comparison was over 100 years ago. Things has changed a bit. Personally, I can't see why anyplace wants to claim their country is the hottest place on earth. Not good for tourism.

While other places may be hotter than Death Valley, I think the point is that these hotter temperatures are one of the indications of Global warming. I have changed over to all electric yard tools as gas versions are significant contributors to emissions. An electric mower was delivered about an hour ago, I'm scrapping the gas mower.

^ No kidding. But in all honestly it's the corporations that have to change to have any significant impact... and even then other countries aren't going to do the same. So American manufactured products end up with even higher price disparities than currently. There is no real solution but the corporations (and government) sure do want individuals to feel like it's their in their ability to change things. Because that diverts attention.

Buuuuuuuut at least tangential to the topic. Once you hit 110F... it's just degrees of hot. Honestly after 100F, 110F-120F feels just about the same. HOT! I was doing some roofing on our house at 95F in the morning and 110F in the afternoon. I felt the same amount of sh*tty at both temps (and everything between). :D

However small what we do, less is less and it is something I can easily control. https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...k-a-lawnmower/. When many of us mow we also use a gas blower, trimmer and edger which is not included in the estimate. I agree, as in this case corporations very seldom have a conscience. all manufactures would have to do is add emission devices to small engines. Because of competition that won't happen unless it is federally mandated.

But, at least tangible to the topic, I suspect there will be new records in more and more places each year and more issues stemming from the associated drought. It appears that historically hot places are getting hotter but it looks like there are many places that are trending for the 'honor' of being the hottest. I hope it isn't in Texas.

as dutchie bicycles are kind of standard transport for anything within 10 miles. In the US that's just not possible, there's no infratructure as far as I can see.

My experience of the US mostly relates to Florida - and the last time I was there, as a teen, I noticed there weren't any sidewalks between retail stores (which out of town are mostly separate 'sites' with their own parking), and the verges are all covered in ouchy succulent plants (is it crab grass?) which will lacerate your ankles, despite looking nice and lush :bustingup:bustingup

Me and Burly went on a road trip this week - off work and the wife and kids went to Poland from Dubai yesterday - there's a new road between there and Khor Fakkan which looks something like this...

Seriously though, be careful as there are too many drivers that don't pay attention and hit motorcycles, bicycles especially when turning left.

I had to drive round the back of Dubai to find a CoViD testing centre today - they had some whoppers in there - You should definitely visit the Northern Emirates - much easier on the suspension!!

I spent some time in Dubai on a business trip. Stayed at the Durj Al Arab hotel or went there for diner, don't remember which. As it is with business trips we never got out of the city. I did get some time to shop for gold jewelry. Enjoy seeing pictures of what we missed. Texans like to say everything is bigger in Texas. Obviously they have not been to Dubai.

Hell Dubai is the size of a postage stamp compared to Saudi Arabia [emoji1787]

It's an 8 hour drive at 140kph just to get to Dubai from my Villa. Which I have to pay my next yearly rent payment on the 1st of August.... 140,800.00 SAR water, lights, maintenance included [emoji2962]

If I had the rest of the company's money for the other 22 Villas, the White Witch would be in the airport parking lot as we speak![emoji1787]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...096e51d2f5.jpg

bcredliner 07-25-2021 03:25 PM

It was unclear. I didn't mean Dubai is large in size. The intended reference was the uniqueness and extravagance. The Dunj Al Arab hotel as one example.

Texas is not the largest state nor does it have the most miles to cross or the most square miles. The phrase everything is bigger in Texas is a broad reference. Can be anything. Examples would be miles of roads or height of hairdos. It could also be related to something Texas believes is unique or extravagant that pales in comparison to Dubai. That was my point.

Have you had problems with paint or windshield glass erosion and pitting due to all the sand? I'm sure it really destroys the headlight cover plastic rapidly, as well. It's got to be 10X worse than here in Texas.

Headlights are a constant problem here and the windshield is noticeable only at certain light angles, the paint not so much. I believe that dry (8%-14%) heat is the only thing keeping my electronics from dying as often as guys in the land of the big PX, but suspension and other fun issues pop up quite often.

Not yet but I hope to go to Petra in Jordan soon, AlUla is a small carved trading post/something in Saudi Arabia.

There is a set of petroglyphs in the Empty Quarter that shows hippos, giraffes, lions and crocodiles along a river with people swimming. But I am not hiking 3 days to see it.

The start of Saudi Summer.... [emoji28]

The General Directorate of Civil Defense warns and notes the following:

[emoji1630] Due to the increase in temperatures during the coming days between 47 and 50 degrees Celsius, and the appearance of cumulus clouds that cause mute air in most areas.
Here are some warnings and alerts...

[emoji837] Vehicles must be evacuated from:
1- Gaseous substances.
2- The lighters.
3- Soft drinks.
4- Perfumes and device batteries in general.
5- The windows of the car must be opened simply (breathing).
6- Not filling the car's fuel tank completely
7- Filling up the car's fuel in the evening.
8- Do not travel by car in the morning.
9- Not filling car tires too much, especially when traveling.

[emoji837] You must watch out for scorpions and snakes, as they will noticeably come out of their burrows and may enter farms and homes to search for the refrigerator.

[emoji837] Too much drinking water and fluids.

[emoji837] Making sure not to turn on the water heaters.

[emoji837] Making sure not to put gas cylinders in the sun.

[emoji837] Ensure that loads are not increased on electricity meters and that air conditioners are not turned on except where the family is, especially during times of peak heat.

[emoji837] Stay away from exposure to sunlight directly, especially during the period from 10 am to 3 pm.

[emoji838] Putting water cans in windows, footnotes, fences, farms and balconies. This is to irrigate the thirst of birds, cats and other animals...

Finally: Please share this information, as others do not know and may read it for the first time...

Yes she doesn't pass 105c when it's really hot and today was 50c.

On the plus side my lights etc all started working after sitting for 10 hours in the sun [emoji274] [emoji28]

Guessing mine needs some work. I hooked my Bluetooth dongle to read temps. For driving around town, it went anywhere between 90C and 96C. Outside temp was as high as 40C. It would reach 96C at stops and lights. It would take a good distance to bring it back to 90C. With a coolant refresh coming up soon, a Stewart high flow pump is looking like a good upgrade.

If I just let it idle for 15 minutes after driving for an hour, she'll be at 88c-93c depending on air temperature and sun/shade.

I still wonder if the "Gulf" edition has some special temperature map. [emoji848][emoji848]

:flame:

Are you running an OEM aux fan? Mine is a brushless replacement. My concern is the temp swing between 90C and 96C. The instrument needle doesn't move at all! By the time it does move, it's going to be bad. Plus, with these hot days, I smell an odor. Like oil or burning plastic. It's not leaking oil. I'm curious that I smell the odor only on these extreme hot days.

Which air circulation light should be on anyway? Left or right. :dunno:

EODguy 07-12-2023 09:23 AM

I'm straight stock on fan and thermostat.
I start on right and switch to left once it starts cooling down.

Those are pretty good for a 3.0i - nothing to worry about there.

If you are comparing those temps to what I said about rarely seeing 93Deg.C - then note that my X5 is a diesel (3.0d) and runs much cooler - the thermostat is an 88Deg.C unit and on cold mornings it struggles to make even that.

Also normal and nothing to worry about. A lot of folk slam the temp gauge for it's damped readings but remember that all engines can vary in operating temp a bit and most drivers barely even look at a temp gauge (present company excepted!!!). You DO know that most us on Xoutpost aren't really normal, right...?
