Now that the aero kit work is done. I just installed my backup cam yesterday and will be working on getting the rest of the head unit in this weekend hopefully (probably not likely :D). I already de-cluttered the wiring harness of the unnecessary stuff. Interestingly enough it appears they have an extra harness in there as a provision for retaining the OEM radio module in the electronics OE location. I cut it out as I won't be retaining DSP... but it was interesting to see. Will post pics in my build thread. Oh also tested the unit in situ using their harness and canbus box. Steering wheel controls worked well and the unit was all happy. Oh, I did discover that this unit does not appear to have a provision for an external microphone? That is a little worrisome but I guess no sense in worrying about that at the moment. :dunno: It has a label on the back of the case but the "socket" is an empty hole and the unit did not come with an external mic so I am guessing it's not available on this unit. |

And the plot thickens lol
Assuming Avin is built on China, they are soon and most factories will close for a month to month and half for Chinese New Year and if it's not out of the ports before then nothing can be done. I'm manufacturing and an this probably applies to all manufacturing out of China. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Hopefully they'll update their website and other buyers soon. I really hope the new units are improved and ship on Feb 22 (my birthday :D) |
I finally pulled the trigger, looked at different styles over and over and thought about it over and over and decided on this unit:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Eris...25b03c00PxPbuz The reasons I chose this unit: 1. They layout looks the closest to the OEM MK4 unit. As far as button layout, the font and even the volume knob looks exactly the same. 2. I really like physical buttons, for some reason I tend to use the buttons on the HU more than the steering wheel controls, especially the volume knob. 3. This goes back to the button/layout and the buttons I use the most are the Presets & Volume and since I got used to the OEM MK4, these will feel more natural as it's placed the exactly the same. 4. Again with the buttons, I don't like having a button that I don't use or can't use. MK4 has some and AVANT-3 is the worst offender of them all LOL My main use for this is to install a backup camera and i-Bus so I can get my AE's running as DRLs finally! |
What do you guys think about this Android HU?
The audio is crap.. bass is almost non-existent.. and forget about Bluetooth calling.. otherwise.. the screen is nice .. however I think this exact mode you got is android 8.1 .. it’s android 4.4 with 8.1 overlay.. u need to look for the same with px6 processor for 8.1 to work..
