Looks like I will miss you again as I fly out back to Sebring for the IMSA 12 hour event on Tuesday morning. Would have loved to have you over to the lake for dinner at Red Rocks in Birkdale. It's supposed to be nice this week. :(

We do love the historical sights in Philly. We've about worn them out with the exception of Edgar Allen Poe. I gotta get that done.

We'll do Duke and head your way tomorrow. I don't need dinner, but if you want to say hello, I can sure keep you up on the time we'll be around there.

Love the pictures and the write up. I do wish I had a daughter instead of all boys as it looks so peaceful. My only hope is that the newest addition works out how to turn an umbrella into a parachute (little shits).

Best of luck as she leaves the nest the first two were hard ,not that I'd tell them that...

Now I'm home watching the newest so here's to getting into trouble with the wife..[emoji38]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...86e65ff65e.jpg

Thanks for sharing, fun to read as always! And yes, I love Philadelphia as well, it's only 30 minutes from my home. :)

Maybe just a Starbucks? Still in Birkdale. When you past the lake heading south on I77, you are there. Pm'd you my phone number.

Thanks for sharing Prop. As OB said, always nice to follow your travel exploits with your daughter. Looks like a blast. I look forward to some day doing the same with my 2 kids.

BTW, been in that tunnel many a time. My Dad did 4 years of officer's training at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk. I was young but still have many memories of living there. I did 1st - 4th grades there I think... I really enjoyed the proximity to all the historical stuff. Williamsburg, Jamestown, etc. Old Dominion is one of my fondest theme park memories. Ahhhh nostalgia, it's starting to strike almost daily now. Time is a cruel mistress.

Great to meet you, OB! And thanks for dinner and dessert. But mostly, thanks for great conversation and a great spot. We always enjoy adding a unique notch to our roadtrip, and this was a memory she'll always have: Daddy could always find someone he wanted to meet or already knew no matter where we were! And she'll remember we liked 'em all. Thanks again!

Ya'll... OB's E53 is seggsy butter on seggsy toast. I'd say bagel, but he's riding 20" 87's. :wow: Those pipes... dat azzz... Ohhh you could spot it well beyond anything else that rolled by. Hell, my *daughter* said, OO! There he is! Wow! Shiney! ;)

If you're around Charlotte, fellas. Look OB up. Good times await.

Well, good! I do like to hear that you guys enjoy travelling along with me. I like having ya'll around.

Our stop midway between Norfolk and Charlotte was really not to revisit UNC. But, the really pish poshy hotel on campus was having a construction sale so there we were, smack dab in the middle of it. It was actually really fun. The place was the kind of place that takes reservations for afternoon tea. They come by to freshen linens and turn down your beds.

My daughter roamed the halls and the workout center with much to report.

So, like any good college town, the square is the place to be. This pizza place offered the 'Carolina Slice" (Do take note of the water. We're both staying strong.)
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...31-medium-.jpg
And of course, like any good college town, the beer I still love is silly, stupid cheap. There is something just wrong about pizza and water. But I'm in it.
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...27-medium-.jpg
The square affords the chance for the rivalry to shine through long after the Sunday afternoon hours.
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...21-medium-.jpg
I like the shirts. But I'm a sucker for word play.
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...58-medium-.jpg
The evening afforded a moment with some ice cream, a fire, and some water. Then there was this pic that turned out really trippy. I mean, like.. who is she? and what's she want with me? :wow:

The morning allowed that we'd return to a neat lunch place after morning coffee in the sunroom. (that last part you kinda have to read through your teeth with a stiff upper lip kinda tone). But the place was southern and the chicken looked good. It was.

Just a hop skip and a jump from UNC is the target of our next campus visit and the target of the biggest rivalry these folks believe exists anywhere: Duke University. We had no idea what to expect. But we found a few steps in that we were impressed by what we saw...

Duke appears to have a more intellectual approach to the rivalry.

Minutes later...

We might've made the million dollar mistake by taking this visit, but I will admit that it was nice. Lots of levers need to be pulled to get that kinda stash thrown at an undergrad. She'll need to dig deep and be determined to get it done.

Like this guy. Avus blue on ivory E36 sedan. Manual tranny and a baby seat in the back. That there is the kinda guy I wanna meet one day. Shake his hand, and let my daughter tell his what she's in for. :stickpoke

But here we are in Charlotte. We're chillin in Uptown tomorrow. I will look for a quarter wash to freshen 'er up before my wife sees her. After that, I think it's Spartanburg. But we're open to anything. Time- and some miles... Will tell! One more day 'till we're THREE! :D

Overboost 03-12-2019 06:22 AM

It was great meeting you and the little one PH and thanks for taking the time to stop by and visit. The wife and I really enjoyed the time we spent and it is always nice to meet members from our forum, we are like family.

Drive careful on the remainder of your trip, that new X is unreal. What a find!

Prop you articulate your journey so well that it makes it very engaging!

PropellerHead 03-13-2019 10:57 AM

I write this morning as my bride makes her way to Charlotte via Miami. Not a terribly direct flight, but she'll get here. And boy will she be tired and hungry! :bawling: We'll get her some Shake Shack and she'll calm down. We like Shake Shack. None at home. :(

ANYWAY, yesterday was our down day in Charlotte. We spent the morning at a local office for work. I like to introduce my daughter to folks who are smart and in a field where women are under represented. I was in some training here some weeks ago and I found plenty of chances for her to say hello. I see her enthusiasm in the younger folks at the office, and I want her to know that some folks still think what they do is pretty cool. Even if I'm in a spot where I'm biding my time until she's out of the house and I can hit the road for work again.

I explained this to OB, but a little over 7 years ago, my daughter made the same request of me that I made of my dad around the same age. Stay home more. Quit leaving on one of those bad ole airplanes from Mon-Friday. She worried ab me being gone. And she liked it when I could go to her lil pee-wee soccer games. :luv: So, in a bid to give her the things I wanted and never got, I got a job that requires a LOT less travel. Compared to Platinum status everywhere, once or twice a quarter filled the bill immediately. I was *THAT* daddy who sat quietly at afternoon practices and worked from my phone or PC. But we were together before and after, and I got to see a LOT of weekday games. :cheer: It's been a GREAT 7 years. My career has suffered due to my lack of travel. I have shunned roles that would take me away. Now, at twice the age as before, she has a broader understanding. She's offered to let me take on a new job. I've been looking, but I'm giving up Lacrosse now, too. I don't understand Lacrosse. And even if it is the oldest pure American sport, I think I'd rather get a grip on it and college campuses than whatever the hell Company A's spin on Cloud compute is. Don't get me wrong. The work/life balance has been outstanding and I have ZERO regrets. I realize that I've made an investment here with a longer term payoff. As anxious as I am to hear that she's happy with her childhood, she'll need time to realize whether she really is. And only the benefit of reflection will bring that to light for us both. Time, once again, will tell.

I was flippping through traffic trying to remember to get an odo pic at just the right mileage. This means about 1,500 miles so far. From 26 and snow flurries to a beeeYOOtiful 63 and sunny. It's tough to pack for such a spread, but we've found some machines for laundry and have made it just fine.

https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...36-medium-.jpg
We found an area not too far from work with all the right amenities, including a WalMart for what started as a rear wiper blade replacement. The one on the car skipped- so irritating. Well, it turns out that WalMart stocks Chemical guys wares now. And Momma sees the car for the 1st time tomorrow. The bare necessities (and plenty of chocolate M&M's) later, we were at a place that offers free vacuums under a nice cover. I slicked up the tires, used some quick detailer in the door jambs and everywhere else, and got a nice spruced up ride again. I wish I had time to take a pic, but our next stop was just around the corner, and she'd made already the appointment. And so it was off to daddy duty.. The best kind there is... :rainflag:
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...05-medium-.jpg
While there, I had threatened to show my wife how stylish my new smaller size has allowed me to become. In typical wife fashion, I got back.. "You paid money for paint splattered jeans!?" She's a goofball.
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...43-medium-.jpg
Finally, it was time to snuggle down and get ready for Momma tomorrow. We did not like the room that we got on the Priceline deal the previous night, so, just like her mother, my little girl decided she'd had enough. Her uncle always asks her the same thing he asks of his boys, but he makes it special just for her: "What do shy girls get? NUTHIN!" She kept on saying it over my objections that we really only had 12 hours left- even if it was a sh!tty room. I followed and let her explain to the young man at the desk that an 'enhanced access' room with no door on the bath was just no way for a teenage daughter to coexist with her daddy. He agreed and we were moved. She's already making a difference. Maybe some of that investment is already showing through? Anyway, we were moved to our new room and we slept while my wife boarded a plane at 0430. :p: Today is a new day! Spartanburg here we THREE come!:wow:
