How do they program the ECU? I take it they are not into replacing chips these days and that its just a re-flash of the code. Whats BMW's view on these upgrades, I'm always a little worried about doing anything to the car while its in warranty - a chip mod will be a good excuse for a dealer to not cover anything mechanical :tsk: |
Thats right mine dealer told me the moment they connect the car onto their computer they will here from munic not to do anything on the car as it is chipped. don't know if this is true bud it sounds scarry enough not to do it

Hi Fiona,
These companys not only offer increase in bhp and tq but also mph. Can you let us know if you see a difference in your mph. Don |

what superchips do is download the current ECU software on the X and then the play about with it (not very technical me) then upload the software back on the ECU. it is not detectable to the garage doing the normal run of the mill stuff.
Since the chip was done Tuesday I have now covered 700 miles a nice wee trip to Manchester and back to Inverness. For performance it really is very noticeable you have a lot more pull but by far the most noticeable is if you thought your X was smooth before well it's 100 times smoother now. What a pleasure it was covering the miles can only compare with the Touareg V10 that we owned previous and much as I loved and still love that make of car it simply does not have the refinement my X had and even has more off now. I know folks can be put of getting this done re the warranty side of things as I found to my costs on the previous motor (Touareg) but the X engine and electrics are for more robust and I feel much more confident getting this car chipped on the road down from Inverness to Glenrothes 150miles I was getting 27.1. I recaulate the MPG at the start of the A9 Perth to Inverness tonight and was getting 31.3MPG. I will finish by saying how blown away I was today driving the X smoother cruising and the application of power again is now just so much smoother. (Think my new word for today is smooth) |
Fernando, what'r typically the drawbacks of this though? If it could/should be done, I only wonder why BMW didn't do it.

Hi Fiona, just wondered - did you get it done at the Falkland Performance Centre in Glenrothes? I work in Glenrothes and I've had previous cars chipped there and have been very happy with them.
Unfortunately as I have a petrol 3.0 X5 I don't see the point, but I'm mega impressed by the boost in power/performance on the diesel. Enjoy! |
