Dead battery. Replaced with new. Now won't start
Hoping someone can help. Had a dead battery in the X5 over the summer. Got a charge and was able to start. A few weeks later battery died and car sat in the driveway for a couple weeks. Charged the battery but car wouldn't start. Used the spare key and it fired up right away. Fast forward another couple weeks. Battery died and I bought a NEW battery. Took out the old and put in the new. Now spare key doesn't start the car. Bought a battery charger and charged the battery overnight so that it's fully charged. No crank, no sound, no start. Really frustrating as it has now been sitting in my driveway since the summer. Can ANYONE point me in the right direction so that I can get this delicate genius to start?

Are any dash lights, etc working when the key is on? Path to door?
1st check your voltage at the B terminal and at the battery. Let us know what you find... I will say you should talk to Andrew as he's pretty much the electrical guru on here. Sent from my SM-A730F using Tapatalk |
Everything comes on: Radio, locks, windows, alarm, etc. Everything but the starter. Voltage on battery is 12.9v fully charged.

And at the B terminal under the hood?

jagarundi - Could you tell us what model & year you have (the best is to put in the signature line)? Spare key, are you using the keys with the remote OR the valet key? Does your car have a factory or aftermarket alarm system (voltage drain)? Have you used any code reader (CarlySoft is recommended)?

Is your MID asking for a “code”? I have heard of a few people getting that on the MID after a prolonged period of a dead battery. I do not know what the solution is if that is the case.

I have the 2003 E53 X5. The spare key is the remote key fob with the button in the center. I think I have a factory installed alarm.
EODguy, what do you mean 'And at the B terminal under the hood?' What about it? It's tight if that's what you're asking |

I think you need to re-pair your EWS module to the DME
