I think I would be the same if the car`s window opened itself on a rainy day. I have even been lucky enough to have water come through the sunroof (while it was closed, thank you very much).

But in terms of the rear cupholders, I was playing around the centre consol last night and happened to find some wires in the upper right portion of the consol (so if you sit in the rear seats facing the consol, leave the cup holder open, and run your fingers in the space where the cupholders would be in the top right corner), I think these wires are for the bt harness, anyway, to make a long story short, the wires got in the way of the closing mechanism for the cup holder, and all I had to do was to push the wires back into the space and close the cupholder.

X5ers do not want to get wet while enjoying this superb truck!

I have had NO (read - ZERO) problems with my X5. It has been reliable, and a pleasure to drive. NO other SUV in the world (with the Cayenne being the possible exception) that combines performance, luxury and safety. NONE!

Again, sorry for your problems. Either you got a lemon, or your parents and dealer simply did not take good care of it. We are not X5 "apologist," as you've inclined. Every automotive magazine and/or writer has given this vehicle rave reviews. The way I see it, you have two choices:

1. Find a good dealer to take care of your problems.
2. Find a Chevy dealer and trade your X5 in for a Tahoe.

1. Never heard of this ever happenin on a BMW, I've had 8 of them and I have dozens of friends who have them.. new problem to me.
2. These kinds of things happen. The motor in my 1997 328 convertible seized after the oil pump went out @ about 20k miles. My dealer had the car back to me with a new motor in 2 days. I'm not sure what happened to you that it took a month.
3. This may sound dumb question, but is the vent turned off?
4. Sounds like a fuse
5. Replace the head unit - it's dead
6. Common problem on the X and the M5 and the E46...
7. Coolant sensor is bad
8. Fuse or guage is bad
9. Sometime, somewhere. someone kicked it... take it apart..

Overall though it sounds as if your X5 has been sorely neglected for a while. I assume the car is no longer under warranty? If not, then with some forethought these things could have been fixed for free and right baout now you would probably be loving your X.

If it is still under warranty then take it to your dealer and everything you mentioned repaired. If they don't fix it then find a better dealer.

As for how terrific your Tahoe is, well it is a 2005 so I doubt your family has owned it long enough to make any judgement about it. Consumer reports rates the X5 as a best pick and the Tahoe as a crapper. So you may be in the very rare percentile that is the opposite.

But what you won't be able to get away from is that in about three years your 2001 X5 will be worth more money than your family's 2005 Tahoe.

My cousin bought a 2001 X5 from a friend who use to complain about X5 all the time. The cousin who bought is happy with the X5 from day one and has had no problems. I have owned a 2001 X5 4.4 myself and never had any problems till I sold last year. It also depends on driving habits, how you take care of the car.
As for X5 vs Tahoe: you are comparing apples to oranges (8 passenger SUV vs 5 passenger SUV)(luxury car vs regular car). Tahoe has a rating of 6.9 and X5 has a rating of 9. You should compare Ford Excursion \Expedition with Tahoe.

"My parents didn't take the best care of it (in later years), but again what reason did they have to. It didn't serve them well, maybe I can write a different chapter as it starts it's new lease on life as a college student's daily driver."

-It is not anyone's job/duty/responsibility to get you to 'loving this X5 again', even if you used to like it.

But don't even get me started on X5 versus the-car-I-oh-so-wish-was-mine Tahoe!!!

-That's why they make Xs and Tahoes: diff strokes.

Dan, GL w/the X regardless of what you do with it.
Imo, the Board, collectively, has done all they can to point you in the right direction. If Stlr(s) won't/can't fix it, and you are not satisfied, I'd rec'd tossing it. And, here's a link for a Tahoe chat board; I'm sure you'll enjoying posting that car's merits there.

I'll say it again

Dude if you don't like a nice german car, go trade it in, you can buy two Chebby's with it....LOL

BTW, GM just issued a few recalls yesterday, something about fuel pump wires and a fire, check it out....

motordavid 04-26-2005 05:22 PM

Here's that Edmunds link for Tahoes...only chat board for that brand that popped up easily.

Hey, I like farmers, too. Without them, we'd be eating the vinyl off the dblwide floors.

What is this kid in High School still?? If you don't like the X5, sell the damn thing; there are TONS of people who would love to get their hands on one.

Damn dude you're pretty ignorant for reaching the conclusion that all X5's suck and your Tahoe is the best truck on the planet.

I just bought a 2001 X5 4.4i and I LOVE the damn thing. Not a single problem. You probably just got a bad production model.

You're being naive, do some research and you'll see how good the X5 really is.
