Show up and we'll trade cars for a day, and you can go run it. As I said... for $85 and one pass...its not much of a test or a bargain. |
Ya know, this thread was originally about performance tuning an X, which I am really interested is...now it's what, a test of penis size?
|
how do you do performance tuning without doing any baseline runs/test runs or getting any before and after dyno numbers?

you should reread my thread. the 10sec run was done in MKiV single turbo Supra putting out about 850hp. The E60 is not a rice rocket.
BTW, G-power does not have a application for the US 4.6is unless you make you own downpipe and take out the cats. There are additional cats on the US models for emission reasons. Quote:

Yeah back to performance...
I foung two leads for headers today actually spawned from discussions in this group. I contacted G-power in Germany (at least emailed them... ) but have no reply as of yet.
The other firm that actually has a part number of their website is Hamann-Motorsport.com (again...taken from suggestions in this thread...and they do have a US dealer out in CA... Wheelpower.com). They have different part numbers for the 4.4/4.6 and for the 4.8. I asked for a price quote including shipping for the ones that fit my ride... lets see what they have to say. Hamann has a big collection of "body enhancement parts" offered. Some are very cool... you should check them out. They also offer, get this... "replacement engines". They are bigger displacement... and not enough technical info about them to know if they are strokers or big bores. I'll post the info about the intercooler sometime later tonight. |
the quality of the hamann crap is pretty horrible not to mention that their gains are pretty negligible. Wheelpower will probably not going to be able to get you the header either. Contact Discovery Auto. the owner goes by Shadowman on the m5board and can custom weld you some headers and tune them to your SC'ed application if you are serious. He is very expensive though.

Dynos... Intercooling
Well I know enough about the physics of a dyno to say the results can be misleading. Let me be more clear... if you get a baseline from a dyno, then make mods and get another dyno test from the same dyno... you can probably trust the relative difference in numbers (all other parameters equal, the HP will probably not be meaningful). BUT you can not match your results against anyone elses from another dyno. The reason for this is that you must estimate some of the physical parameters of the dyno testing process (like, for example...the efficiency of the drive train... which is quite complicated for a 4WD vehicle).
BTW here is the place that makes X5 intercoolers: http://www.allardturbosport.co.uk/ The one that fits is actually for a X5 3.0D, and it is priced at $340 USD. Hoses (Which they can make) are extra. Also this is a very good discussion of intercooling. The math can be a bit much if you havn't taken a college thermodynamics class: http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...oler_paper.pdf |
